Howie was well worth seeing. Could have stood a lot less "audience uninvited participation" although Howie did respond to every "yelled out interruption" to his show with humour & dignity. Without the interruptions I feel he could have done his show as he had prepared. I paid to see Howie, not listen to opinions from the audience.

    Howie Mandel and his hecklers

by rudibiff on 2009-11-23National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Howie was very funny when he was talking to the whole audience because he tells stories from real life instead of jokes. It was great. However, he did not handle the "hecklers" from the audience very well. When someone would yell out he would try to make the rest of the audience be very quiet so he could have a one-on-one coversation with the heckler. It became very boring & very annoying.

by Howiefan on 2009-11-22National Arts Centre - Ottawa

I'm writing this two days later and my cheeks are still sore from laughing. Not only was he funny, but very good at getting the audience involved. I don't think Albert, Bonnie and Carol wil ever be the same.......

Too bad the audience wouldn't shut up. We could have heard a lot more of Howie's act. He's quick on his feet though!!! LOVED IT

    Howie was great

by Cigitaurus on 2009-11-22National Arts Centre - Ottawa

The Howie show was great, I could sit and listen to him talk for hours, oh wait, I did. He had great material, and he was quick on his feet when the audience started yelling things out at him cause they wanted attention. I just didn't like when he made fun of ppl w disabilities and sometimes he was a bit too crass. That is the only reason he did not get 5 stars.

    Awsomly Howie

by Acadian62 on 2009-11-21National Arts Centre - Ottawa

It was the first time seeing Howie for my wife and me and did not know what to expect. All I can say is that we could not stop laughing as Howie was constantly interacting with the audience or maybe it was the other way around. He was always improvising and somehow got to do some of his show. Howie did not dissapoint and will definitely be back to see him again.

    A very funny man!

by Kruz on 2009-11-21National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Howie is a very funny man! I love how he can play with the audience and improvise without getting flustered. I like how uses the audience to make it more personal. There were few "individuals" in the crowd who interrupted his dialogue but he was able to use this to his advantage and make his routine unique and even more humorous. The beginning with the very very long video clip was very irritating but it was funny none the less.

Howie Mandell is Fantastic! I Love Him

by JudyM on 2009-11-21National Arts Centre - Ottawa

We enjoyed the Howie Mandell show so much! He was funny and friendly - just so personable. I laughed so hard my stomach hurt - can't remember the last time that happened. I just wish he could have done 2 shows and I really wish, instead of row M, that we had front row seats. If he comes again, I'll definitely go again.

    Disappointed in Howie Mandell's Organization

by Haggis on 2009-11-21National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Howie has an excellent sense of humor and great repartee with the audience but the film on the screen at the start of the show was ridiculous and there appeared to be technical problems - Ottawa has an ample supply of people who can prevent such difficulties. The pretend comedian who started the show more than 10 minutes late was pathetic - not up to NAC standards. Howie's performance was marred by his excessive and meaningless use of the F-word. Surely someone of his ability and standing does not need to insult the audience's intelligence by pointless gutter tactics. The ticket price was absurd for what was delivered.

    Howie Wows 'em

by ringer98 on 2009-11-21National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Howie is a great comedian. His material is original and he engages the audience. This time he opened with a video of a singer, probably from the days of "Lawrence Welk" who sang a nice little song. Funny thing is, the man sang the same song over and over again for about 15 minutes. The audience went from being amused, entertained, hand-clapping, boooing, laughing and then everything all over again. It was artistically Howie. As for the performer himself. His material never gets old and apparently neither does he. He states he'll be 54 years old Nov 29, but his 30ish boyish charm is alive and strong. He speaks of his love and respect for his wife and women in general, his adorable child and blends in all in to a comedic routine that never feels routine. This is my second time seeing him 'live' and I can hardly wait to do it again!

    Regretably Mandel was forgetable

by Macstrr on 2009-11-21National Arts Centre - Ottawa

From my perspective Howie had a tough crowd and handled them well. It was amazing the amount of hecklers that came out last night and felt a need to speak out. Seriously they weren't funny. He dealt with 3 or 4 that he included in his skit but I had about a half a dozen around us, with comments that they probably thought were funny; but just weren't and was disruptive to the show. My thoughts are that because Howie is a Canadian many people feel a certain affinity for him and that he's somehow their best bud so it's okay to speak out at him. Listen we are all paying a fair price to listen to his skit/monologue. Let him do his job. Anyways they had a video clip at the beginning that just replayed itself. It was a silly little thing and frankly it started to build up the audience and then neither Howie or his warm up act built on it. What gives 15-20 minutes of stupidity for....? The warm up act was ...what was his name and his material comprised of...well I forget so I guess forgetable is an appropriate rating. Howie came out and he was lively and peepy and gave a good show. I realize that part of the show is for him to set himself up for comments from the crowd/hecklers and then he switches the situation on them. This he did fabulously and to a very enthusiastic crowd. So the shows rolling along moderately well (+/-) and he throws on some clips along the line of Candid Camera and disappears from the stage. Okay so theirs some mutted giggles and we are waiting for some kind of build up on this unrelated video. Howie comes back and from my perspective does a poor Bugs Bunny immitation and tells us " Dah-dah's all folks" . So my lasting memory of the show is of a candid video clip that to my knowledge never made it on TV and of an ongoing verbal barrage between Howie and some drunken woman by the name of Kathy from across the room. Wow what fun. What was said? Well like the rest of the show it isn't worth remembering, so generally it was pretty much a forgetable evening. Howie I wish you well but until I can afford a throw away disposable income you are not on my list of stand up comics to see. It just isn't worth my time, effort and hard earned money.
