BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
After their songs “The Power of Love” and “Back in Time” were both featured prominently in the 1985 sci-fi classic Back to the Future, Huey Lewis and the News were all but assured a place as one of the most defining acts of the decade. They delivered on that promise, topping the album charts with Sports in 1983 and Fore! in 1986 and racking up some of the era's seminal hits with “I Want a New Drug,” “Hip to Be Square,” and “Stuck With You."
Huey and the band were fantastic. It was a great rock and roll journey back in time(sic).Huey's vocals are timeless , the band was very tight and clean.The drummer drove the band very well. Any time, any place I would see Huey Lewis and the News again, they were awsome
I had been looking forward to this concert for some time and was disappointed by it. What Huey Lewis and the News did was superb. It is just that they did not do very much and made some questionable choices regarding material. First, they only played for 90 minutes. I would certainly have expected more given the money I paid for the tickets. Even 90 minutes should have been ample time to hit all of their (admittedly many) highlights but there were a number of songs that did not make it into the show. Of course, everyone will have his/her own favourites, but how can a Huey Lewis concert NOT include hits like "Perfect World" and especially the #1 "Jacob's Ladder"? There were at least a couple of pleasant non-hits and covers (e. g., "Under the Boardwalk") that could have been dropped to make room for more classic Huey Lewis tunes. That said, the Avalon Ballroom is a lovely venue for an intimate pop concert and the sound quality was excellent. Huey's voice sounded great and the group did pretty much every Huey Lewis standard aside from the jarring omissions noted above. Still, the lasting feeling I have of the concert is one of disappointment at unmet expectations. Let me just add quickly that my wife, who is a true Huey Lewis fan and was the main reason that we went all the way to Niagara Falls for the concert, thinks that this review is generous.
Huey Lewis and the News have still got it. They put on a fabulous show and the venue was awesome.
As a long time fan I was thrilled to see that the boys still rocked. The audience was clapping and dancing to all the hits. The harmonies were still tight and voices strong. The venue great as usual!
Had just a great time, the music was what I expected, and then some. I've been a fan for a number of years, and I've never been disappointed. The venue was new to me, and I was impressed with the seating, any seat in the house would have been great! When they return, I'll be back!
I found Huey Lewis concert high energy with plenty of action I enjoyed older sounds as well as newer compositions. Although concert was a little short Huey played what I believe to be an extended encore performance which made up for that.
They played for 90 minutes, sang all their greatest hits. Very enjoyable. Was satisified.
We really enjoyed this great show that Huey Lewis and the News put on for us. The acoustics were great and we had great seats. We purchased their cd and we thoroughly enjoy every minute of listening to them.
It was the first time I had ever been to this venue, it reminded me of Massey Hall but on a smaller scale. The seats were great! About half way through the show people were going up to stand at the stage to get a little closer, dance and party. I was surprised that Security was actually letting them. I thought, if they can do it why can't I? I was right there front and center, it was AWESOME - WHAT A RUSH!!!! When I put my hand in the air Huey held it...he touched me, he touched me, OMG HE TOUCHED ME!!!! Thank you Huey, you just gave me a memory that I will never forget. No other concert will ever be the same!
Was unbeliveable great showmanship and great vocals sound just as good now as they did when they first started.Brought back some good memeories and it will not be forgotten
