About

Hugh Laurie is nothing if not multitalented. Known for his acting work on the shows Blackadder, Jeeves and Wooster, and House, Hugh Laurie is also a skilled writer, director, comedian,  and musician. Laurie began studying piano at the age of six and later took up a range of instruments, including guitar, piano, drums, saxophone, and harmonica. He has shown off his musical abilities during his acting career, particularly on shows such as A Bit of Fry & Laurie and House, as well as during his hosting stint on Saturday Night Live in 2005.
He plays keyboard and sings vocals for Band From TV, a charity-driven rock group based in Los Angeles. He also collaborated with Meat Loaf after the artist appeared with him in an episode of House. After this appearance, Laurie played the piano as a guest artist on Meat Loaf's Hang Cool Teddy Bear album of 2010. He also performed and co-wrote the blues comedy song “Sperm Test in the Morning” for Maybe Baby. While starring in House, Laurie has also weaved in several musical storylines and played a range of classic instruments, including Les Paul and Gibson Flying V guitars. His character also owns a Hammond B-3 organ and plays the introduction to Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum in one episode. Laurie also plays a doctor in Kate Bush's video for the song “Experiment IV.”
Laurie has also recorded his own musical collection and made an album for Warner Bros Records in 2011 called Let Them Talk, which was released in Germany and France, featuring a range of collaborations with artists that included Dr. John, Tom Jones and Irma Thomas. That same year, Laurie closed the Cheltenham Jazz Festival with a jazz quintet to great applause and good reviews. He also talked about his love for jazz and the music of New Orleans in the ITV documentary, Perspectives. He released a second studio album, Didn't It Rain, in 2013. He has released three singles to date: You Don't Know My Mind in 2011, and Winin' Boy Blues and Wild Honey in 2013.

This concert was stupendous! Hugh started at 8:07 as he was told to hold off due to TTC problems but he played until after 10:30 with no intermission- wow! The Copper Bottom Band are consummate musicians - mutil- talented and Gabby Moreno and Sister Jean McClain have the voices of smoke and angels! Hugh puts on a fantastic show and he and the band keep you spellbound for hours...3 encores!

Hugh Laurie was amazing! He is very talented and very versatile and it was reflected in the whole concert. He joked, talked, sang, played piano, guitar and even danced :) The Copper Bottom accompanied him and boy they are AWESOME! The concert was almost 3 hours with no intermission. 3 times standing ovation. I think Hugh didn't expect Toronto love him that much :)

Hugh Laurie and The Copper Bottom Band - Toronto

by SatedPenguin on 2013-10-23The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Hugh Laurie and The Copper Bottom Band put on an awesome performance at the Danforth Music Hall in Toronto. The show, over two hours in all, was packed with highly skilled instrumental, exceptional vocals, and an instant camaraderie that put the audience right into the middle of the performance. The highly energetic performance gave each member of the group a chance to showcase his or her extraordinary talents without it appearing to be 'staged' to do just that. Everyone gave the appearance of absolutely loving what they do and the impression that there is nowhere they would rather be than singing and playing for this particular audience. Hugh Laurie was an amazing showman and brought the whole thing together. His self-deprecating, "what kind of idiot would try to follow a song like that", and then giving the audience a knowing look was usually followed ay another excellent number with himself as lead. An outstanding show with phenomenal vocals and instrumentals and the wonderful stage presence of Hugh Laurie made this a fantastic evening that will be remembered for a long time.

    Brought the "House" down

by HouseFan on 2013-10-23The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

This was one of the most entertaining and energetic shows I have seen in a long time. Hugh Laurie surrounded himself with amazing talented musicians. Everyone of them was an act on their own. To get up in the aisles and dance is a good feeling. Danforth music hall was a great venue. Will go there again.

    Hugh Laurie was spectacular!!

by MCSnow on 2013-10-23The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

What a performance. Hugh Laurie and the Copper Bottom band - they are pure entertainment. I loved the fact the each member of the group had their own centre stage moments. And Hugh - comedian (or Bertie Wooster as he was once known as), actor and now musician. That is a showman.

    House in the house

by thegreatpatender on 2013-10-23The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

This event was everything it promised to be. Mr. Laurie was excellent at hosting the night, played and sang his heart out, and was funny as hell. I like that he featured everyone in the band many times through the evening. His song choices were terrific, too. The Music Hall is still a great place to see music...not a bad seat in the place because the sound is great. We brought friends and ate at Allen's next door...a great evening.

    So so

by Anonymous on 2013-10-23The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Mediocre show. I'll give Hugh credit for going out and doing something he always wanted to do (as he said), but he has quite a long way to go to becoming a serious musical performer. Perhaps he should stick to acting and comedy skits.

    Paging Dr. House to Awesomeness

by Roanna on 2013-10-23The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

I had no idea what to expect going in - I knew he had a couple of jazz albums and having listened to them once I thought this could be okay. It was more than okay-and I didn't know half the songs, or any of the artists he referenced! Hugh Laurie was fantastic! He engaged with the audience, tossing jokes and anecodates at us, and the back up band (Copper Bottom Band) was amazing! The lady on trombone, the guy playing half a dozen different guitars, and the other guy on the multitude of horns, all amazing and that was just half the band! So glad I went!
