Could not have asked for more

by TheRob on 2012-03-26Sound Academy - Toronto

I have been a fan of I Mother Earth for well over a decade, and I was bummed to say the least when they stopped touring 8 years ago. I can never ever fault a band for doing what they love, and when they say what they wanted to say, to leave it at that. It was an absolute pleasure to hear that they returned to do a show in Toronto - the city of their roots. They even went to the effort of making cards for people who came to the show, so we could download a copy of their new song - much love. The show was everything that I wanted in a reunion - a good mix of all of their work, and some of my favorite older songs. Jag was his usual self, sounding right at home on stage and with the band, with an incredible cadence and soul. In the new song "We Got the Love", he has a destructive solo that tore the roof off. I have seen the lead singer, Brian (who was the lead in the last two albums), with the band twice, and perhaps it is my memory, but he has never sounded better with the band. The new song has that I Mother Earth soul, and Brian has managed to find a serious persence in this band, while retaining the band's classic sound. Bruce (bass) has also managed to keep this element of funk that I love of the band. And Christian - I have always loved his writing/lyrics, and just to see/hear him play was my pleasure. I have seen them, it was an amazing show, and I left totally satisfied.

Unbelievable showing, these guys wouldn't stop playing, I thought the show ended twice only to be proven wrong on both occasions.

by CanadianMaden on 2012-03-25Sound Academy - Toronto

Seeing this band play live was the musical highlight of my life ! The energy that was rushing through the crowd was an unbelievable feeling. IME is a band that screams talent. They have it all, and I am so honoured to have experienced these concerts of a lifetime :)

Heartfelt Blast from the Past from IME

    by Methos2009 on 2012-03-25Sound Academy - Toronto

Absolutely glad that I bought tickets for this reunion. The IME boys were spot on in their performance of many songs from their back catalogue. I thought it was great that they basically played 2.5 hours straight...made it well worth it from a fan's perspective. Only thing I would have wished different was for them to play their song Sonic -- otherwise I wouldn't change a thing! Great job fellas -- cheers!

    IME was Amazing! Wonderful! Unforgettable!

    by Chimera469 on 2012-03-25Sound Academy - Toronto

Its been over 8 years....8 long years since IME last performed. The show on March 23 2012 felt like it had only been 8 months since a last performance and the band was touring for a new album. The opening bands (Dodger and The Bright Light Social Hour) were great choices, 2 very different sounds which IMO fits in with IME who always had a sound that was 'outside of the box'. The 5 minute countdown felt longer than the 8 years! The opening song 'The Mother's was appropriate. From then on it was full steam ahead playing songs off every album such as my highlights 'Levitate, Rain Will Fall, Earth, Sky & C, Shortcut to Moncton, Good For Sule, All Awake, I is Us, Meat Dreams and the new song We Got The Love'. Actually EVERY song played was a highlight! Their energy was contagious, their comraderie was infectious and they sounded incrediable! Bottom line: one of the BEST shows and BEST time had. I sincerely hope they get together again sooner than 8 years.

    i mother earth kicked ass

    by joeb44 on 2012-03-25Sound Academy - Toronto

Simply amazing is what it was. They played a very tight set. Great guitar solos. It was amazing to see how well they played considering they were away from the scene for so long and the fact they were able to put on a very solid performance for 2 hrs. Having the countdown to when they got on stage was cool.

    Two and a half hours

by CraigBurn on 2012-03-25Sound Academy - Toronto

I've been waiting over ten years to see I Mother Earth again and they did not disappoint. They also didn't waste our time by just playing singles. More than half of the set was made up of deep album tracks and b-sides.

While I certainly liked the albums Dig and Scenery with Edwin more than Brian, Brian does the old stuff justice in a way I think almost no other singer could. Live they also do a really great job keeping high energy, fast pace, and man that was a long long set for a concert. Would definitely recommend.
