I have never heard blues played in such a manner...not only did it make me get up out of my seat to move, but I felt his harmonica deep down in my bones! He was awesome. His band members are truly gifted and together they made blues music come alive for me.
I've been listening to James Cotton for a mighty long time whereas Mose Allison is new to me. Goes without saying that James was the drawing card for me and wild horses couldn't stop me from attending!!!!!!!!! I don't miss opportunities to concerts where legendary artists, like James Cotton, are performing!!!!!!!!!!! I love my blues music and this concert was absolutely awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! At least now, when I look back, I can say that I DID see the legendary James Cotton in concert. When it comes to such an awesome talent, I don't just listen to the music but rather I inhale every single note until I become one with it. Having given Mose Allison a chance, I'm sure that he's just not my cup of tea.
I was greatly anticipating this concert and certainly enjoyed Mose Allison, however, my husband and I had to leave after only the first two pieces performed by James Cotton. The sound guys had the volume WAY TOO LOUD !!! When I go to a concert I don't want to be blasted out of my seat nor become more deaf than I already am! Is it absolutely necessary that we need to carry earplugs with us to a performance? I think not! This experience will certainly influence our decision to attend future concerts -- anywhere!
Mose Allison was unbelievable. His songwriting is so clever and the delivery incredibly unique. I am so lucky to have heard him live and I'll never forget it! James Cotton and his band were so extremely talented and rocked the Jack like I've never heard before. They were technically and artistically amazing performers and really transmitted their personalities through their instruments. Altogether, an incredible night!
James Cotton was outstanding.......even if he has no voice left. But, James Cotton is not about singing, its about playing blues harp......and he still has it!!! Besides, is able bodied sidekick MORE than filled in on the singing/voice end. James still can play great licks and can get as blue as anyone would wish.
