So I originally bought the ticket to Jeff Martin's show before his newest cd came out (for the band Jeff Martin 777) so I had no idea what to expect. I didn't end up buying the cd before the concert, and I didn't know what the opening band would be.
Doors opened at 8:05 and the first act, Gabriel Lee, came onstage at 9:30. He said he was nervous in front of a crowd as big as ours, so he didn't talk as much as I heard he had in past concerts, but his performances were amazing. He was a really funny guy too, and joked with people from the front of the crowd.
The next act, Flowerchild, were all rock, and performed as best they could on a smallish stage with a four piece band. They were really good, but I was honestly distracted as I could see Gabriel Lee pulling off some cheesy ballet moves just off stage, and doing a square dance during Flowerchild's blues number.
Jeff Martin 777 came onstage just before 11:30. They totally rocked every song they did and had amazing stage presence. Jeff Martin walked all over the stage, whilst the bassist, Jay Cortez, danced in his own corner to the beat.
It wasn't all just songs straight off of the albums, but they performed some old tea party songs, such as Requiem, The Messenger, and Sister Awake, and then a couple of songs from their new cd. Jeff Martin performed quite a few guitar solo's, which were awesome, and also added in a couple of lines from songs that weren't his, but actually went with the songs he was performing quite well. He sung a line or two from "Can't Touch This" and "Somewhere Only We Know" as well as performed quite a bit from the song "Hurt".
They performed two songs for their encore, the second song being about eight minutes long, or longer (I wasn't counting.) The end of the second song was performed by Gabriel Lee.
Overall, an amazing night.
