Sharing Mics loses some of the emphasis in acting
by Kal0003 on 2022-11-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5I was excited to see the show and bought last minute tickets. However, the theater in which I watched it has always been known to have problems with vocal audio when it shares the speakers with the orchestra. Queen Elizabeth theater needs to upgrade their Soundsystem and give dedicated speakers solely to vocals has even though I was eight rows away from the speakers it was hard to hear what was being sung.
Also, the actors chose to share microphones and pass them around as each person sang, including using Mike’s with really long cords. The mics ended up becoming a distraction and prevented the actors from using their hands to help emphasize emotion. There was even a point in which Jesus was tied up, but there was a microphone stuck between his hands and the ropes. I found it a little ridiculous since the actors were already wearing hidden mics. Not one of my top musicals overall but the vocal talents were still impressive.
