    Cleese was ok

by 5CLJ5 on 2013-09-25National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We enjoyed the show, but we were disappointed when after talking about "A Fish Called Wanda", he suddenly ended the show. The advertisement for the show said that he would go on to talk about his role in Harry Potter, and then entertain questions from the audience. I don't know why he stopped, but it seemed VERY odd. Also, we were thrown off by the HUGE teleprompter at the back of the hall. Although he did not seem to be reading it, it did contain, almost word-for-word, what he was talking about. Because of where we were sitting, this prompter was just to the right of our line-of-sight, and we found ourselves distracted by it. All in all, not a bad show, with some laughs, but nothing gut breaking.

    Where was the Q&A?

by torontonian19 on 2013-09-24National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Great stories from John Cleese, who was sharp and witty, but why was their no Q&A? I believe the other shows got to ask questions, but he'll make his money no matter how much effort he puts into a show. I know he's 73, but the Q&A would have been the best part of the show! Cut out some stories, take a nap, you gotta deliver what was billed.

John Cleese was wonderful, as anticipated!

by BrendaAnne on 2013-09-24National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This John Cleese one man show was a wonderful living auto biography. John documented his life from his beginning, through his childhood, his educational life and ultimately his vocational career as both a comedy writer and performer. I have been a John Cleese fan all my life, reveling in Monty Python's Flying Circus (the show) and the films, Faulty Towers and anything else Cleese I could possibly access, including a hosting position at Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival. I have so much respect for this man and his accomplishments and this one man show, which documented John's life, as well as his career accomplishments, was most informative, sentimental and ultimately extremely amusing. Bottom line ~ you enjoy John Cleese, this show is not be be missed!

    John Cleese

by Cornpone on 2013-09-24National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Very nice and very funny...focused on history alot ...his upbringing, his start in life. How he got lucky being in the right place at the right time... Intriguing how things all came together for him...All in all a great show...the kind of guy you would feel comfortable with sitting down and having some pints with for the evening. Seemed very comfortable talking to the public..Wish there had been a meet and greet..Would have loved to say Hi and visit for a minute with him..possibly a photo..

I love John Cleese but I found this show lacking.....too much time spent on video footage and not enough with him live.

    Short and Disappointing

by MonQ on 2013-09-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Saw John "Cheese" in Ottawa. The show was very short, disappointing and we definitely did not get our money's worth. Plus, being an actor of his calibre, the least he could have done was memorize his show. The entire show was on a tele-prompter, word for word... no diviation, no room for ad-lib. The show was entertaining when he was relating stories of his growing up years, however, too many film clips of skits we have seen numberous times.

John Cleese may be the best person ever

by RiverD on 2013-09-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

So funny. I almost died laughing, which would have been ironic given the title of the show: "Last time to see me before I die". Loved all the clips from his shows, loved the stories about his childhood, his parents, and his start in the business. Very interesting AND hilarious. I'm so glad I went. I had such a good time. The man is genuis. And his black humour jokes will be great for parties! ;)

    John Cleese!!!

by Altogirlpei on 2013-09-22National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Far and away, one of the most enjoyable shows I've ever attended! It was like sitting in a really big living room, spending an evening listening to stories told by a dear old friend. All that was missing was a glass (or two) of wine and my dog.

    Mailing it in.

by nickname111 on 2013-09-22National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Meh . . . as Cleese said at the start, with several ex-wives, he needs the money. Appreciated the frankness, but how the mighty have fallen.
