    Hoarse, then excellent

by Sheepstein on 2018-08-21Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

I walked in a minute late and Hiatt started his set by himself acoustically. He sounded very hoarse and struggled a bit at the start. The same happened after break when he brought Sonny and the band out. I guess it takes a few minutes for a 66 year old man's voice to limber up. After the 1st song pre and post intermission, it was all excellent. John Hiatt is a gem and Sonny Landreth is amazing. They really cooked when together as a band. Tight sound. Old school cool. Really glad I saw John again. A living American legend.

John Hiat & Steve Earle was a great experience

by Traveller6 on 2012-09-10South Shore Music Circus - Cohasset

We drove all the way from Ontario to see John Hiat not realizing he was coming to Montreal but it was worth the mini vacation. We really enjoyed the venue at the South Shore Music Circus, so different from most concert locations.

JOHN HIATT WAS JUST WELL AT THE TOP OF MY LIST

by hammy on 2011-10-16The Chrysalids Theatre - Kitchener

A very simple stage and light show but the sound and the musicians were well simply amazing and spell binding. John just loves playing for people and his emotions just make you feel well you are up there with him. The venue was a very good place for the sound and I would sure go back to the venue again.

    John as fabulous as ever

by bigticket2 on 2011-10-14Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

John Hiatt sang his heart out, too bad there were very few people to hear it! The half-empty theatre contributed to a very subdued feeling that night. John sounded a whole lot more energetic at Massey when he opened for Levon Helm. Massey had a full house and a noisy one! The laid back playing by John's Combo also contributed to the subdued ambiance. I was hoping for more but still enjoyed John Hiatt and his great music.

John Hiatt & The Combo in top form

by wintet on 2011-10-14Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

It's been a while since I've seen John Hiatt with a full band, having toured recently with Lyle Lovett, and what an amazing show it was. This is a top notch band with long-time drummer Kenneth Blevins, amazing guitar and mandolin player Doug Lancio, and Frank Swart on bass. I think the Combo is particularily lucky to have guitar tech Bandon Young singing back up vocals. His harmonies were spot on and really added to the songs. The numbers from the fantastic new album "Dirty Jeans and Mudslide Hymns" fit in perfectly with old favourites like "Riding With The King" and "Thing Called Love". A particular favourite new song was "Detroit Made" that really got the audience cheering. John Hiatt and the Combo didn't break down any walls, but they sure raised the roof!

John Hiatt - master songwriter, musician

by Spence4 on 2011-10-14Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

John Hiatt is a modern day poet whose music enriches all those who hear it. His performance was outstanding, however it is a tragedy that the show was so poorly promoted that the level of attendance from a Toronto audience was an embarrassment.
