    John Mayall is truly great,

by Garechef on 2011-11-29Métropolis - Montreal

John Mayall and his musicians were great. However the sound man ruined the show. The drums sounded all muffled, and no clarity at all in the cymbals as well. Too bad because this drummer was fantastic but the sound did not do him justice. The only clear instrument was the lead guitar. We had to strain our ears when John sang as well! But whenever the off stage person spoke to introduce the band or tell the audience something it was perfectly loud and clear. Otherwise a great show.

    Excellent show!

by Triniman on 2010-03-27Pantages Playhouse Theatre - Winnipeg

Excellent show! Keyboardist Tom Canning and guitarist Rock Athas were sensational, with unbelievable displays of music prowess. The rest of the band wasn't too shabby, either. John Mayall was charming, funny and more than held his own on keyboards and harmonica. There was no opening act and excluding the 20-minute intermission, they played for about two hours. Mayall played some experimental keyboard parts and even scatted, which drew a lot of applause. They played classic blues numbers written by others, some classic Mayall tunes and some tracks from the new CD.

    Brit Blues at its best!!!!

by Special20 on 2009-12-01Pantages Playhouse Theatre - Winnipeg

Mayall & the Bluesbreakers were all that I had hoped for and more. Fellow musicians in attendance agreeded. I was at the UMSU Concert many years ago, when Mayall was here in Winnipeg, with Mick Taylor on guitar. I appreciated them then and I appreciated them now. Mayall seems to attract and select very good talent. Hope JM & associates return again. The sooner, the better. Thanks for a great show!

I saw him last time at the Walker, and he was great. This time around he was even greater! He's like a fine red wine. Way to go John.

Mayall and Bluesbreakers crew deliver the goods !

by Phisrethebluesfan on 2009-11-23The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

This was the second time I have caught them at the Phoenix - last time was in 2004. The new lineup is less experienced than the old one (eg with Buddy Widdingtron) but they make up for it with showmanship and excitement for sure. Mayall is in excellent form and his voice got better as the show progressed. They played for over two solid hours without a break - great show. Mayall kindly signed autographs for fans afterwards. He is a great blues man and is very loyal to his fans. Mayall is a great mentor for his new Bluesbreakers and gives them each lots of solo time. He is one of the all time best live performers.

    John Mayall's Amazing Blues

by Steelperson on 2009-11-23The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

John Mayall, at almost 76 years, remains the blues bandleader. Over 40 years after I first saw him perform with the Bluesbreakers in Bristol, he manages to keep the blues (and some jazz) alive and vital. This time, as usual, he assembled a stellar cast of musicians - each shone, and Mayall, as is his wont, gave them each a chance to shine. Each musician, Mayall included, provided hair-standing -up-on-your neck moments. The guitarist played emotional solos (particularly on "Have You Heard") and the bass player played a solid liquid bottom line until he soared on an extended lightening fingered solo on "Room To Move". Keyboardist Tom Canning built up exciting and complex organ lines on his solos, and the drummer kept a tight and precise beat anchoring all, and of course added complex fills and a great solo of his own. And Mayall - bues hero on harp, guitar and keyboards. Also, despite their newness, the new numbers were impressive and garnered their fair share of applause. A young security guard working at the venue told me that although he had not been familiar with the music, he was off after the show to buy all of Mayall's albums! One quibble, apparently anxious to re-set the hall as a nightclub after 9.00 pm, the Phoenix hurried everyone out before the band could play a richly deserved encore...the crowd would have stayed as long as Mayall would have played! All in all a great nearly 2 hour show!

    Mayall is a gifted musician

by ellio on 2009-11-23The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

a testemant to the fact that he loves what he does is that he is still playing great music at his age He has a great band backing him and it was obvious how much his band respected him This was one to the best and most memorable concerts my spouse and I have been to and we have been to many . We saw Eric Clapton at the ACC and Mayall wins by miles. The Phoenix was a perfect venue and Mayall seemed right at home being so close to the audience. We were impressed at how long he stayed signing autographs which we have never seen at any concert before We are looking forward to seeing him again.
