    John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers

by daspro on 2009-11-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

First half of concert was a little weak. Mr Mayall seamed to struggle with his keyboards and guitar. However, the second half more than made up for the weakness in the first with Mr Mayall's command over some old and new material. I was thrilled that the band finished their set with a terrific finale.

    Mayall Is Still The Man

by Sweeper on 2009-11-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

John Mayall, at 76, still has the chops he has honed from the past 40 plus years of playing the blues. As always, a great great band backing him up. This is the real deal kiddies !!

John still has room to move

by ELBY on 2009-11-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

After listening to Mayall's unique music for over 40 years I'm still amazed at his originality and energy. The father of British Blues has a knack of finding blazing talent and pushing it through his academy on to better things. His current "American" band are superb blending classic Mayall from the 60's with new numbers and all the while generating a storm of energy on stage. Where does he find these guys? Mayall was my music hero as a kid, if he keeps it up at this pace he'll be my hero to the grave. What are the chances of a BB King / Mayall gig, one more time, the two greats together?

    Mayall Majestic

by RichtheReviewer on 2009-11-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Always known as a great band leader, John Mayall did not disappoint his Vancouver fans. Playing to an almost full house in Downtown Vancouver, King John and his four man band played two solid sets of tunes from the vast Mayall catalogue (57 albums) which also relied for many of its crowd pleasers on covers of Chicago and Delta blues from an even earlier era. The crowd, many of whom remember a party line as well as the dial telephone, loved the old stuff and recognized the effort with the new tunes as well. With a 15 minuted break in the middle the show went almost three hours. Not bad for a guy in his 4th quarter.

Right from the beginging, the crowd was there to see the grandfather of the blues. The show built it's momentum right to the end. Once in a lifetime event.
