    A game of tired players

    by cBd210516 on 2010-05-26Rogers Centre - Toronto

I'm a HUGE Italian soccer fan and follow the Azzurri, Seria A and B religiously. Coming into this event I knew what to expect, a game with no real intensity and a bunch of tired players coming off a long season jogging around the pitch and making a run here and there. I loved the experience because FINALLY some Italian soccer came back to Toronto but the game wasn't the greatest. The problem with this match was that it was a friendly right after the Serie A season and the second problem was that it was a friendly. The problem with friendlies between two teams in the same league right after the season is that neither team cares about the actual game, there was nothing to play for other than to test out young players that just graduated from each Club's youth system but we did get to see Del Piero, Grosso, and Jovetic play which was fantastic to see. If they want to schedule a friendly between two European teams then make it a game between two teams from different leagues, that tends to give players some sort of intensity as they are not only representing their club, but their league as well! If people want to see a game between two teams from the same European league then create some sort of little cup tournament between 3 or 4 teams or make it just a cup tie like Toronto FC's Carlsberg Cup for example, though the cup is meaningless it still adds some sort of intensity and finally schedule these friendlies in August after the players have had some time off! They would be rusty no doubt about it but at the same time they would actually want to play in August to prove their worth to their Clubs for the upcoming season. Overall a rather bland game but it had its moments with Jovetic scoring an incredible goal and hitting some goalposts.

The pitch was not that great and the atmospher was okay, but considering it is a post season game that is expected. It was great seeing all the juventus squad including delpiero.

Did they even want to be here?

by azzuri on 2010-05-26Rogers Centre - Toronto

I loved being able to see Serie A teams playing in Canada. Their footwork was incredible to see (could have done without all of the falling, but it wouldn't be Italian soccer without it). The only things that I had a problem with - With the GTA apparently being a huge Juventus city, the team they support looked like they didn't really care or want to be here. Granted, that could be due to the fact that they were slipping on the fake turf of the Roger's Centre. It might have been better to hold the game at BMO Field with real grass. That being said, I'd love to see more of the Italian series games being held here. :)

    Where's the passion?

    by 68JCode on 2010-05-26Rogers Centre - Toronto

Let me just state that I'm a big fan of Seria A football and of course Juventus from day 1. Watching top footballers in the world live is always a good thing to experience. Some friends wanted to see more big names to the event to drop the kind of money asked but that's where the bar is set at nowadays. The hype around the team names can only go so long until the fans/consumers will just have enough. I felt very dissappointed after the game not because my team lost but couldn't help feel it was a money grab. (Kind of like what Leaf fans experience. Oopps, outside voice) I would not have purchase 4 tickets if Del Piero wasn't on the list. Excited to be there but the game lacked passion or the will to have bragging rights as it was a friendly after all. Juve vs any other than Seria A would have been probably better is it would have attracted a more diverse fan base and create a better energy in the place. I never thought I'd say this but I'll take my TFC tickets over any other game in town including the Leafs. Much better energy, all positive and true fans of the team and game. Thanks for the oppportunity to express.

    Juve V Fiore

by AnitaJoshi on 2010-05-26Rogers Centre - Toronto

Great seats in section 132 row 36 seats 110-110, it was a good game but to slow for me, I'm used to watching fast paced english league football. Good game nevertheless.

    Fiorentina - Juve

    by Paulie80 on 2010-05-26Rogers Centre - Toronto

Great to see to big European clubs play in Canada even if most of the big names were not present. Would love to see a preseason game featuring teams from Europe rather then a postseason game.

It was a good experience to see football legends play in a continent that is still immature on the sport of football. For starters they call it soccer in North America.

    Disappointed!!!

    by JJ101 on 2010-05-26Rogers Centre - Toronto

Overall I was disappointed with this match! The Rogers Centre as a soccer venue is not ideal as the stadium is not set up for soccer, it is too large and turf was used versus real grass. The BMO pitch would have been much better! In my opinion, the players would have felt more comfortable playing on real turf versus artificial turf as they are more accustomed to it. There were quite a few slips during the match resulting in injuries. Also, the referees were horrible and the announcer was also terrible as he could not pronounce any names and it was evident that he did not understand the game e.g. 3 minutes added for 'Lost Time'? Right! As for the actual game, I know it was only an exhibition game, but I felt like the players were not into it at all as they did not put on a very exciting show. They could have at least shown a little enthusiasm and pizazz! I do not think I would watch another match here, only in Italy! Thank you.

    Embarrassing

by Drughi on 2010-05-26Rogers Centre - Toronto

The game was a bust. The match intensity was exactly what it should have been for a reserve filled friendly but the fans were the real problem. They thought they were at the theatre. Everyone was sitting in dead silence to the point that you could nearly hear the traffic outside. The whole crowd only seemed to know Del Piero's name and spent the whole time trying to get him to look at their camera or sign some crap they had. I was embarrassed for Toronto. It was the biggest display of Serie A ignorance I've ever seen. The fact that I saw a parade of jerseys that had nothing to do with the game screamed inexperience. It is already frowned upon to sport the kits of Italian rivals but when the Liverpool jersey makes its appearance it’s time to pack it in. How can a “Red” not know that the history between them and Juventus? Toronto just looked dumb and the sofa style manner of following the game simply ruined it for the players and the 5 or 6 actual fans that were there. I can't wait to watch a game in Italy again where I can stand, chant, and enjoy myself surrounded by people that know the game.

    Forgettable game

    by Soccernut1 on 2010-05-26Rogers Centre - Toronto

My son and I were looking forward to a decent game, and came away feeling like we saw a rec men's game it was soooo BORING!!! The players didn't want to take any chances of getting injured on the fake grass (even though two players were carted off) so it just seemed like both teams were going through the motions. No cards were issued...which is a first for me to see at such a high level of teams. Crowd was quiet and never into the game either. Why was the dome closed on such a perfect night? Only good thing is us being able to say we watched Del Piero play.

Juve suffers defeat to Fiorentina 0-1

by Rockhard on 2010-05-26Rogers Centre - Toronto

Great to see the Black and white in Toronto not the best effort other the Allesandro Delpiero who is quite the sight teaching all the young rookies how soccer is played. Fiorentina was a very strong appearance tall rugged and dominating Juve for most part. Jovenic was absolutely stunning. The turf was not the best soccer nothing better then actual grass as most palyers figured out. I strongly would say that this game should have been played at BMO Field as it was vacant last night it would have been a sell out and a much better game outdoors. Any how it was all great and would highly recommend any one to go and see a match up like this again.

    Juventus vs Fiorentina

by InterFan on 2010-05-26Rogers Centre - Toronto

I am not a Juventus fan but I enjoyed watching two Serie A teams play a friendly. I was a little disappointed in the turn out. I also thought the tickets were over priced. In all honesty I think TFC games have more of a fan base and better turn out. I think this was due to lack of advertisement and high ticket prices. $100 for a friendly is a bit much.

The game did not justify its pricepoint

by TorFC on 2010-05-26Rogers Centre - Toronto

I figure if you're going to charge $80+ for a ticket to a soccer bout, at least have the decency to bring the actual team. Various top player did not show face and the linesmen were despicable at calling offsides. Even to the point where players were stopping themselves on offsides not called by the linesmen yet. I want to say good things, but I simply have troubles doing so. Kudos to Fiorentina for actually showing up to the match to play.

    Juve vs. Fiorentina!

    by Salinda72 on 2010-05-26Rogers Centre - Toronto

The game was fun and entertaining (despite Juve's performance), sorry Juvetini! ;) Of course, one might complain about the outrageous parking fee (25.00) and of course the concession items but hey, I suppose those prices are consistent with most venues. Anyway, we had a great time! Thank you.

    Waste of Time

by Anonymous on 2010-05-26Rogers Centre - Toronto

Glad i paid $100 bucks to watch the junior A woodbridge icecaps play.....seriously ....terrible choice of venue ...beautiful night out and we couldn't at least open the dome ...or play at BMO field??? only 20K people in a huge dome does not make a good atmosphere....tack on the fake grass and the players were clearly scared of injury and completely dogging it. Bad BAD EVENT TERRIBLY DISSAPPOINTED
