KIDS IN THE HALL LIVE:

Canadian comedy troupe Kids In the Hall thrilled fans when they turned their popular sketch sitcom into a full-blown comedy tour. Whether they're playing out their signature skits in drag or impersonating Queen Elizabeth II, the five jokesters consistently have aidoemces doubled-over in hysterics during their live performances. Back on tour, the uncanny quintet will treat ticket buyers to their quirky antics as they hit the road for a string of highly anticipated shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Kids In the Hall have had a long-standing run in Canada's comedy  scene, first forming in the early '80s but moving on to solo pursuits shortly after. It wasn't until their 1986 reunion when they realized their potential as a troupe -- SNL creator Lorne Michaels also noticed their on-stage chemistry, and the idea for a comedy show was born. They made their television debut in 1989, enjoying a successful six-season run and earning a Golden Rose Award (Rose d'Or). Since the show's finale, Kids In the Hall members have developed a major cult following, acting out recurring themes on tour and performing sketch situations in their hit film Brain Candy. Back on the road, Kids In the Hall head out on a number of tour dates, treating ticket buyers to their classic skits alongside new material.

I thought it was really great the way they flipped between new and old sketches. The local references made for some good jokes. Glad I finally saw them live! The improvised moments and their own laughter made it look like they were having fun on stage.

  • Hilarious

The Kids still have it...just as funny as they were 25 years ago. Too bad they couldn't do all of the characters like the Chicken Lady or Simon Milligan with Man Servant Hecubus but still very funny!

It's always amazing to watch a creative team play well together! Despite time passing, they still seem to be able to read each other's antics. Of course it's even funnier when something catches them off guard. Loved it!

It was great to see the Middle Aged Men in the Hall back together again. They did a couple of sketches from the past but mostly new material. I would have loved to have seen another show on a different night just to see how much of it was improvised. For instance, there was a bit that had a rather long F-Bomb exchange between Dave and I think Bruce, maybe Kevin, where Scott joined in from the wings. It seemed like that was not rehearsed, it was just something Scott couldn't bear to not be a part of. There were a couple of moments like that. They just all seemed to be having so much fun that you couldn't help but have fun yourself watching them.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but it ended up being exactly what I hoped it would be! Lots of classic material with lots of fabulous new sketches!!! Thoroughly enjoyable! Huge kudos to the troupe for remaining as hilarious as ever!

  • Disappointing

by Trin on 2015-05-21Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 2 out of 5

We didn't think the skits were that funny; some were, but not that many. Our seats were too far back to see the comedians' faces. Binoculars would've helped. The sound was great.
