About
LAURA STEVENSON IN CONCERT:
On stage folk rock singer-songwriter Laura Stevenson is a study in contrasts. On some songs she's a quirky, reserved folk crooner who performs mellow sets with just a guitar. On others she channels a louder, punk-like vibe that finds her tearing through speedy jams like "Sink, Swim" and danceable tunes like "The Healthy One". Her gift for shifting gears guarantees concertgoers a spectacularly entertaining live experience that will leave them awed by Stevenson's impeccable talent and enviable vocal range. Her backing band includes a drummer, bassist, guitarist, and accordion/trumpeter, while Stevenson handles the guitar, banjo, and piano with ease. Revered for her majestic melodies and haunting, poetic lyrics, she consistently delivers entrancing concerts that ticket buyers won't soon forget.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Singer-songwriter Laura Stevenson was raised on Long Island, NY in a musical family. Her grandfather is famed composer Harry Simeone -- whose most famous works include the Christmas songs "The Little Drummer Boy" and "Do You Hear What I Hear?" -- and her grandmother was a singer in jazz master Benny Goodman's band. Stevenson started playing the piano when she was five, picked up the guitar in her teens, and spent her high school years singing in choral groups while going to punk shows on the weekends. In her early twenties she moved to Brooklyn and befriended singer Jeff Rosenstock, who recruited her as the keyboardist for his punk rock band Bomb The Music Industry! While she recorded and toured the world with them, Stevenson formed her own band under the name Laura Stevenson & The Cans. She released her debut album, simply titled A Record, in 2010 and followed up with another full-length, Sit Resist, a year later. For her third album, 2013's Wheel, she amped up the production, resulting in a thrillingly complex set of tracks that are only made more captivating when performed in concert.
