LEIF VOLLEBEKK IN CONCERT:
It's difficult not to be captivated by rising young talent Leif Vollebekk -- his guitar-driven ballads are soothing and his voice is extremely versatile, oscillating between tight vibrato, soaring falsetto, and conversation-like singing. The crooner's performances, although minimalistic, are powerful and mesmerizing as he takes the stage with a harmonica rack around his neck and an acoustic guitar in hand. Whether he's singing his older classic "You Couldn't Lie To Me In Paris" or newer material off his 2013 record North Americana, Vollebekk will treat ticket buyers to a string of intimate shows as he hits the road alongside William Fitzsimmons.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Leif Vollebekk, a young singer-songwriter from Montreal, Canada, made his debut in 2010 with the beautifully imperfect LP Inland, a record that shines like familiar jewels from Ryan Adams or Ray LaMontagne. Soon after the release, Vollebekk embarked on a two-year journey in order to hone his craft, penning new material and seeking out the perfect studio to record his next collection of songs. Drawing inspiration from foreign places like Paris and New York, Vollebekk began to develop a distinct, old-world sound for his polished 2013 record North Americana, revealing a beautiful mix of lush acoustic guitars and an organic quality that feels like home. Back on the road, Vollebekk will have fans awestruck as he treats them to his ballad-filled sets on an upcoming tour with William Fitzsimmons.

Leif performing is like watching an exorcism of someone who is possessed by their own uncontrollable magic. His music, his words, his body give everything he has and there is no escaping being deeply absorbed into not only his soul, but a self you never knew. Enter his portal and you will surely be spat out only to lie breathless on the floor wondering how one human can overthrow your control of your senses and bring you witness to what it feels like to authentically, passionately be alive. He's stuck in my veins and I'm secretly hoping he remains a secret forever.
Leif Vollebekk’s gorgeous chord progressions, and softly intense vocals and lyrics weave a dreamlike spell. This concert had such a lovely vibe. Humorous and intimate, he kept the audience wanting more. His talent on guitar and piano, and sometimes both at the same time, make him a must see.
Crazy, amazing musicians. Leif’s music is soulful and you can tell he loves what he is doing. His in between banter makes you love him even more. Thanks for a magical evening.
Amazingly talented musician. Great songwriter. So, so charming. But as a solo act, I found this show a letdown. Leif had a synthesizer, piano and guitar and tried to use all three on his own (and do some mild beatboxing/snapping as percussion). In my view he can play any one of those instruments gorgeously on their own but trying to play more than one at a time was just distracting. He ended up playing multiple instruments badly instead of one well, constantly touching up the synthesizer to adjust levels mid song and snapping to fill in the missing drums, but off beat. Wish the bad was there to let him focus and tear it up.
