  • Entertaining and enlightening...

Positives: The music was incredible. The band was solid and the vocals were well-suited for the parts they represented without TRYING too hard to 'be' Leonard and Joni. The storytelling was great- the delivery of the stories, that is. The accompanying images were delightful. The song selection was a great mix of familiar favourites and lesser known tracks. The show made me want to go out and buy more Joni Mitchell albums. Negatives: The story jumped around a bit which felt disingenuous. It didn't really affect the mood of the show, but it made me question the veracity of any of the stories. When I first heard of the show, I had pictured something more like a stage play with musical elements included. This was unexpected, but nonetheless entertaining. Overall, I enjoyed this experience. However, please understand that you are paying theatre prices for what amounts to an elaborate tribute band performance with some stories and pictures thrown in. It would take a very special artistic subject for me to check out another show of this type.

  • Narrative Concert

Very interesting medium, would definitely do a narrative concert again. Loved the storyline woven in with music and the photo documentation slideshow. Super fun!

  • Joyful and Haunting

The performers and production were superb. I knew a lot about Cohen’s time in Edmonton and some about his and Joni’s relationship, but this went so much deeper. Their inspired and haunting lyrics came to life with the addition of those beautiful photographs and that painting of Joni. Not to be missed and yes, it should go to Broadway!

  • Awesome

More pictures please! Could have used more nostalgic pics of both Leonard and Joni instead of the same ones over & over. Female singer’s voice was very strong… could have adjusted volume so that our ears weren’t blown open, although her voice was incredible, we sat in centre balcony and her voice really hit us

  • Lack of Chemistry

by ttfish on 2024-04-08Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 3 out of 5

We were disappointed that the duo in this show did not remind us of the real Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell. The music was okay but they did not resonate with us.

This is an amazing experience. The telling of the story is very tastefully done. Each character and the band played their roles well. Broadway here they come!!!!

  • Needed More.

by Rob on 2024-04-08Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 3 out of 5

All in all it was well put together, they should have had more pictures to go along with the docmentary portions. And we were front row 1st balcony, music was to loud at this location. The instumentals overpowered the vocals and it was hard to hear and understand the singing during at least two Joni songs, and many parts for other Joni songs. Specially when the clarinet was being played, it was ear piercing.
