About

Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.

This was my first viewing of the story and also prior to seeing the film. I have seen many musicals in my time and this one tops the list. The acting was great sound was clear and the stage changes were unbelievable. I really enjoyed the performance, thank you

  • Les Miserables - Just Fantastic!!!

by LuvMusicals on 2013-07-29Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

This is the 2nd time I've seen Les Mis. First time about 15-20 years ago. I loved it the 1st time and now the 2nd time. Same songs but with updated staging. Much grander feel with this version fitting to this musical. Cast was excellent. The emotional performances of Peter Lockyer (Valjean) and Genevieve Leclerc (Fantine) were palpable in their solos. Brianna Carlson-Goodman has a beautiful singing voice as Eponine. Performances by the rest of the cast was top notch. The singing of Thenadier was different (but not negative) as I'm used to a 'british' accented singing for this character. Audience thoroughly enjoyed the show with several rounds of applause and a quick standing ovation at the end. For some audience members, this was their 1st Les Mis musical after seeing Les Mis movie. Sorry Russel Crowe, musical is better. OVERALL, I thoroughly enjoyed this musical. Bravo!!!!! Highly Recommend!

  • Les Mes still the best live theatre ever!

by Sparkles on 2013-07-29Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Les Mes is still the best live theatre ever! I saw it the first time around and wasn't sure if it could be matched. It did and then some. Everything about it is top notch. The music, language, story, message, the three hours flew by. I could watch it over and over every night.

  • Amazing Performance of Les Mis!

by JustAGirlFan on 2013-07-28Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

A wonderful treat to see! Visuals, stunning, music phenomenal! My only complaint would be the casting for little Gavroch, the lack of his Little People song, and occasionally the actors would forget where the mikes are and the vocals would drop off. Master of the house was performed exactly the way you would want, and Eponine stole the show with her breathless vocals. Each part was carefully cast to Mach the vocal range for the character. To see this performance price was not even a factor! I only wish I had gone to see it a second time during the tour. Hopefully Les Mis does not take 13 years to return to Canada.

  • Les Mis was fantastic!

by kgwong on 2013-07-28Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

We went to see Les Miserables on Thursday July 25th at the Centennial Concert Hall. My family and I all enjoyed the production. The singers were fantastic - there was an incredible amount of talent on the stage! If I was rating the performance solely on the singers and the music, it would be five stars. However, there were some technical problems - mics were cutting out (mostly for the ensemble - what a shame to have a solo line muted because your mike wasn't working). At one point, it also looked like one of the panels did not move correctly - from our seats, we could see backstage. Fix these technical issues, and it will be a stellar performance all around!

  • Les MIZ visually great ...emotional lacking

    by July24 on 2013-07-27Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

With all the tweaking, re-tooling and streamlining, there has been a lessening of the emotional impact earned by the lush emotionalism of Schonberg's score and Victor's Hugo 1862 tale of redemption, first love and doomed revolution. The tempo of the songs is occasionally too fast to catch all the words, but most of all, the production fails to allow enough time for the audience to luxuriate in the passions of the melodrama. The tempo of the songs is occasionally too fast to catch all the words, but most of all, the production fails to allow enough time for the audience to luxuriate in the passions of the melodrama.

  • Les Miz

by SusieL on 2013-07-27Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

The music was great. The special effects brought an new dimension to a classic. Unfortunately the projections of the orchestra conductor behind the audience kept flashing on and off which was very distracting and annoying.

With anticipation from watching the movie I was prepared to travel to NY to go see the stage production. Then we hear it's coming to the Centennial Concert Hall, Winnipeg. So July 24, 2013 arrived. From the opening note at 8:00pm till the standing ovation at 11:00 I was completely immersed by the story and the fantastic voices.
