About

Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.

Live theater at it's finest. Great traveling production. The sets were fantastic. Hard to compare to the original London cast but solid performances by all the company.

  • Wonderful Experience

by Srobrien on 2013-07-31Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Les Miserables is my all time favourite musical. We went to see it twenty-two years ago and I loved it then. I was not disappointed on Saturday afternoon. From the first moment, I was swept away by the incredible cast and the songs that reflect our deepest emotion. As Jean Valjean sang Bring Him Home, I thought about the many young men who have died in so many wars. The song Drink With Me, brought back so many memories of family and friends who are no longer living. That is the power of musical theatre. The audience was completely mesmerized and the intensity of their response had a life of its own. Thank you to a talented cast who gave all they had and created an experience, I will never forget.

  • I felt I was going blind-lighting would help!!!

by CathySS on 2013-07-30Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 2 out of 5

I love Les Mis's music. The voices alone make it worthwhile to watch Les Mis. However-I found the lack of lightening very distracting as I strained my eyes to see the actors' faces. I realize that there is the intent to make it seem like we are watching a dark period of time. But I was unable to see the expressions on the cahracter's faces. You could hear the emotions in their voices, but I was unable to clearly see their faces to se Visualize their expressions. I would have loved to been able to see the sorrow in their eyes, or the delight in finding a new love that reflects on ones face I was really frustrated with the poor lightening-I felt like I was losing my vision

I'm a huge fan of Les Mis but this wasn't very good. The tempo of the entire production felt rushed, you could barely understand the lyrics (Javert especially) and if you don't know the story, I think it would be very easy to get lost along the way. Some of the voices were very good (Fantine) but others (we had the understudy for Valjean on our night) couldn't even hit those high notes in Bring Him Home. I'm not a Broadway snob by any means, but for more than $100/ticket, you'd think the iconic songs from that production would be done justice. Aside from that, the new effects were interesting, but I think reinventing the wheel just for the sake of touring again, missed the mark for me. Sometimes the original, with more emphasis on vocal talent than video screens and fancy lighting when people die, is simply superior.

  • Les Mis Touring production was Outstsnding

    by Excalibur2013 on 2013-07-30Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

A must see. As a Les Mis fan I was not disappointed. The staging kept the simplicity of the production while giving just enough to set the scenes. The performers did a tremendous job. The voices were truly matched to the songs. There were times I closed my eyes and I was still able to get power and feeling hat I got when they were open. I've always been a big fan of the cast from the 10th anniversary concert and this cast was definitely right up there in my opinion. I would definitely recommend seeing this production even if you've seen Les Mis before. Well done everyone.

  • Not worth the money

by MrsDisappointed on 2013-07-30Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 2 out of 5

I have been to see many a musical both here in Winnipeg as well as in Vancouver. Not only did I see Les Mis 20 years ago, but I spent the week and the past 20 years listening to the recording. The singers seemed like the "B Team" - it was unfortunate. But more so than being an amateur singing critic... the line of sight for my seat which I bought as a splurge two days before the show was terrible. I had wondered why those seats were still available, and now I know. Overall, I give the experience an F, and I doubt that I would waste the money in the future on long touring musicals.

  • Worth seeing!

  • Excellent, but beware of texters

    by Denise46 on 2013-07-30Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Great performance by the artists, not sure I love the new staging and backdrops. The music rocks. My 4th time to see Les Miz and always makes me cry. Unfortunately the two young ladies next to me did nothing but talk and text during the performance they fortunately left half way through the 2nd half.

  • Les Miserable was enchanting!

by PDViewpoint on 2013-07-30Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

I was overwhelmed by the voices, acting, music and sets. Very impressive. I was moved to tears. The story is captivating and moving in and of itself and this musical did it justice. Thanks for all the hard work that was done. It made my month!

  • Les Mis review

    by iliketogotoshpw00999 on 2013-07-30Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

The show was done well. The singing was really good however at times I felt that the acting was not as good as other times I have seen Les Mis. I found that the connection between the actors playing Jean Val Jean and Cosette was not there but overall a good experience.

  • It was, what I expected

by shelfreezinginthepeg on 2013-07-30Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

The new staging very dark, hard to see the actors. Very fast paced. All the performances were done well. Seen this show several times. Time to give it a bit of a break. Post the movie. I kept comparing the performances.

This was amazing, beautifully done, beautifully sung. I would recommend this to anyone. I took my daughters and they loved it as well. The music and the story brought tears to my eyes. I did not want it to end.

  • Les Meserables!

by Bekah on 2013-07-29Centennial Concert Hall - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Les Meserables is my favourite show of all time to see. I have been watching it since 1995 and have seen it many times when it was showing in New York on broadway and each time if has come to Winnipeg. This performance was the best one I have seen yet. Much thought & attention to details has gone into each scene. The effects almost made it feel like a 3D performance at times. The singing was superb. Truly a fantastic night out & magical evening.
