About

Two-time Grammy award winning comedian/actor/writer Lewis Black uses his trademark style of comedic yelling and finger pointing to expose the absurdities of life. His comedic brilliance makes people laugh at life's hypocrisies and the insanity he sees in the world. He has performed throughout the world and the US, where he performed at Carnegie Hall and had two successful Broadway runs.

His latest stand-up special, Tragically, I Need You, released earlier this year and has already surpassed 1.3 million views on YouTube. The brand-new special explores topics including his ways of coping with the pandemic, his frustrations with the evolving world, and of course his thoughts about the chaos of America these last few years.

Adding a unique element to podcasting, Black delivers audience-written Rants which have been submitted from fans around the world on his podcast, Rant Cast.

Black is the longest-running contributor on Comedy Central's THE DAILY SHOW and his stand-up specials have appeared on HBO, Comedy Central, Showtime, and Epix.

In 2020, he released Thanks for Risking Your Life. In 2015, Black notably voiced the character "Anger" in the Pixar Academy Award-winning film, Inside Out. His other notable films include Universal's Accepted co-starring Jonah Hill, Blake Lively and Justin Long, and also Man Of The Year opposite Robin Williams, Christopher Walken, Laura Linney, and Jeff Goldblum.

The comedian has released eight critically acclaimed comedy albums including the 2007 Grammy Award-Winner, The Carnegie Hall Performance. He won his second Grammy in 2011 for his album, Stark Raving Black, and has a total of 6 Grammys nominations. He has published three bestsellers: Nothing's Sacred (Simon & Schuster, 2005), Me of Little Faith (Riverhead Books, 2008) and I'm Dreaming of a Black Christmas (Riverhead Books, 2010).

A published playwright, he's written over 40 plays and has found his work performed throughout the country, including at the A.C.T. Theatre, the Magic Theatre, The Williamstown Theatre Festival, and The Public Theatre.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Lewis is dedicated to a number of charitable organizations including the Luv U Project, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and The 52nd Street Project.

He's also deeply committed to supporting our troops. A seasoned USO tour veteran, he's performed for the troops on three Christmas tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Lewis is currently on his 2023 Off The Rails Tour. For dates and more info go-to: www.Lewisblack.com.

    Lewis Black was outstanding

by NSBB on 2012-09-12National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The opening act, Jeff Stilson, was excellent, a great warm-up for Lewis Black. As an American ex-pat living in Oz, he brings a good international perspective to the show, and as an ex-writer for Letterman, he has good comedy roots. After hearing his opening, I feared Black would be a let-down. I was wrong. Lewis Black was all I expected and more. His live-show was much more energetic and raw than his TV apprearances, and was definitely not for children or those easily offended by strong language. I laughed until I had tears in my eyes. His political observations were US-centric, but with all the TV exposure the Republicans and Democrats are getting in an election year, pretty simple to follow. Highly recommended for adults.

Hilarious!!! Lewis Black is one of my top favourite comedians. His opener guy was pretty damn funny too. The NAC was a great venue- only downfall that they don't serve drinks there.......

I have seen him everytime he has come to Ottawa and still think he is one of the funniest stand ups. He makes you laugh to the point of belly ache and tears, but he also makes you think. I recommend if you like to laugh, then go see Lewis Black.

Real and Highly Political and Funny

by Lince on 2012-09-10National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I have always loved Mr. Black's humor. However, note that, compared to the televised performances, the live show includes not only a bit of swearing - it is excessive and the swearing dampens the fun. He is great - he just needs to perform live as he does on Just for Loughs (mind you, my experience with other comedians in live shows is no different).

by ZeeDan10 on 2012-09-10National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

From the moment he came onstage he had me in hysterics! The joke about the Republicans and the Girl Scouts had me laughing until I was short of breath... I seriously thought I would not be able to catch my breath again- he was that funny! I love this guy, best money I ever spent!

    Brilliant Satirist

by GerryH on 2012-09-10National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Lewis Black is brilliant, funny and current. When he vents it to some degree relieves all of us of the tension prevailing politics lays on us. At the same time we can laugh and feel good together about our commonalities on these issues. Lewis Black is an outstanding communicator with the credentials to back it up.

Lewis was as great as ever, but...

by Jarok on 2012-09-09Massey Hall - Toronto

Both the opening act and Lewis were great, but there was a 30-minute break between the two that was not explained.

    Lewis for President!

by Dabruuzer on 2012-09-09Massey Hall - Toronto

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Lewis Black stormed Massey Hall with his amazing combination of sarcasm, anger and socially-relevant wit. He knows exactly to whom he is speaking, even when feigning techno-ignorance with the web, Facebook, etc. Bullseye! Black is a must-see for everyone that either loves truth-assaulting humour, sarcastic social commentary, or outright anger at the times we face. Even better is the fact that Lewis Black combines all three. On a side note, Jeff Stilton was a great opening act, and deserves a special of his own.

I've wanted to see Mr. Black for years and after finally seeing him perform live it was worth the wait. He had everyone laughing in tears at least several times. If this kind of comedy is your thing then you need to see him perform for yourself. Highly recommended!

    very funny

by melsbels on 2012-06-11Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

I really liked his comedy but the language was soooo bad. I'm no prude but I've seen some really good comedians that don't use that offensive language. I did laugh a lot so it's a good thing that the material was good. I'm so glad that I didn't bring along any of my friends that really would have been upset by his language. There's no need for that.

    I Love Lewis Black!!

by Iocain on 2012-06-11Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

Lewis met all my expectations and more. I love him, I hope he comes back to BC real soon. He is my favorite comedian and I will never forget this show. It was the highlight of my year. It would have been nice to meet him afterwards, but I had a feeling during the show that he wouldn't be staying, and who can blame him, any time I'm in the city as soon as I'm done I want to get the heck out of there. Despite that, he was hilarious, and I thought the show deserves a five star rating.
