About

Los Angeles Kings History

The Kings were founded in 1967 as part of the six-team influx that saw the NHL expand to 12 teams. There were some shining stars; Rogie Vachon was stellar goaltender, while Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne lit the lamp at a furious pace alongside his "Triple Crown" line mates Dave Taylor and Charlie Simmer. The Kings’ biggest postseason success during this time was with 1982's "Miracle on Manchester," where the Kings made the largest comeback in NHL playoff history to win 6-5 over the heavily favored Edmonton Oilers, who were led by a 21-year-old phenom named Wayne Gretzky.

Six years later, the Kings landed The Great One. Alongside fellow stars Jari Kurri, Luc Robitaille, Rob Blake, and Kelly Hrudey, the team flirted with success for several years, ultimately losing to the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Final in 1993.

Shortly after the turn of the century, the Kings broke through in a big way, winning the Stanley Cup Championship in 2012 and 2014 under coach Darryl Sutter.

    Kings loss

by chaingunsofdoom on 2011-04-24STAPLES Center - Los Angeles

Being close to the bench was nice, but you can't see the near corners at all. Watched all of that on the 4 screens underneath the Jumbotron, which I have never seen at any arena before. Kings lost @ home but will take this one to Game 7.

No "Doughty" About It. The Kings Are Done

by Canucklehead83 on 2010-04-27STAPLES Center - Los Angeles

Drove down from Vancouver 21hrs straight to see this game and it was well worth it!!! The atmosphere was a hostile one inside Staples Center with a lot of things said between fans. They did put canuck player cards in the urinals for their fans to pee on (Uncalled for). And they would not let us bring our posterboard signs into the arena...?!? ("Quick!...Make a Tee Time") ("O'Brien race you back to The Roxy") and ("No Doughty About It....The Kings Are Done"). Anyways, Great game, and even better party with all the Canuck fans after the game outside the stadium.

    Great playoff experience

by Vanfans on 2010-04-26STAPLES Center - Los Angeles

Loved being there for both playoff games! Great show and excitement during the games. Most LA fans were trash talking the few Vancouver fans but in a "good" way? It was also exciting on the metro for the same reasons! Food in the arena was very good..beef bun was yummy..loved the passion and the noise from all...and the Dancing Man was hilarious! We'll be baaaack! Go Canucks Go! We are also Wayne Gretzky, Drew Doughty, and Ryan Smith fans..great Canadian players!

Great but to bad the kings lost.

by DavidM on 2010-04-09STAPLES Center - Los Angeles

I think that the Staples Center is a nice venue but I thought the security screening was not needed. At the Saddle Dome, we do not have it and it prevents huge lines from forming. I thought the parking at the convention center was excellent but maybe a little too expensive.($20)! It was a nice expirience but the Ducks won in the end which was too bad.

Staples Centre Kings vs. Capitals game was great

by JustM3 on 2010-01-11STAPLES Center - Los Angeles

buying the tickets and getting them delivered to our door was so easy. Well our day with Ovechkin is over! It was a fabulous experience. We got up, had a quick breakfast and then decided to take on the subway system to get to the game. We did it quite smoothly I must say We got to The Staples Centre about 10 minutes before the building opened. We stood for about 45 minutes behind the Capitals' bench to wait for them to come out. We had a couple really great chats with other Ovechkin fans. One dad and son from Calgary and another from northern California. We went to our seats after getting lots of Ovi warm up photos. Our seats were amazing. The seats were just to the side of the Capitals penalty box - 3 rows up from the ice. And guess what?! Ovechkin got a penalty so we were thrilled. We got great photos while he was in there. We were seriously, only 3 feet away from him. There was guy, front row, who knew the guy working the penalty box and without us knowing, all of a sudden he turned around with his hand clenching something and handing it to us. He said, "You came all the way from Canada, here's a puck that Ovechkin shot with!" and handed us a cold, wet puck! We thanked him perfusely! Then to our surprise we got a bonus . . .. after the game . . . free of charge, there was a fundraiser, celebrity hockey game. This included Cuba Gooding Jr. who scored a hat trick and was very animated, very cool. It was his birthday and some of the players brought out a cake for him and threw it in his face! Then to our delight, another celebrity happened to be Chuck, the drummer from our favourite band "Simple Plan"! That was another highlight.

The Kings vs Capitals game was great!

by JustM3 on 2010-01-08STAPLES Center - Los Angeles

We came from Canada to see Ovechkin play since we couldn't get ahold of tickets in our hometown of Edmonton. We were thrilled to get amazing tickets. We were shocked that there were empty seats in The Staples Center for the game - I mean, come on . . . it was OVECHKIN playing! The place would have been stuffed to the rafters if it was in Canada. We were able to stand down at the plexi glass behind the Capitals bench while the Capitals were warming up before the game with no one telling us to move. It was awesome to be able to get up so close to them. It was a very special event for my family. OH, and tickets were cheaper than we could have gotten in Edmonton for the same seats . . . if anyone would have given up those seats that is!

Staples Center - LA Kings vs. Calgary Flames

by NightD on 2009-11-22STAPLES Center - Los Angeles

Ok, so I'm a Calgarian living in LA and this was my first experience at the Staples Center. Everything was great and I will be going back. The only problem I had was when buying beer. When asked for ID, I kindly obliged and handed it to the lady. She proceeded to pass it back to the kitchen where another lady had to "Check with security" As I am 26 years old and have no need for a fake ID, I started to ask questions as to what was going on. Apparently the Alberta Drivers licenses are not on the "approved" list? I have been using the ID all over Los Angeles and have never encountered this problem before. Be sure to bring your passport if you are from out of country.

    2 for 2, gotta love it !!!

by MrTNT on 2009-11-08STAPLES Center - Los Angeles

What else do I have to write when the Canucks win in a shootout and the Tragically Hip rock out across the street right after. A beautiful thing to watch the Hip and meet the real 'Captain', Kirk McLean.

Kings / Staples Centre a must see when in LA

by Phaneuffan3 on 2009-11-06STAPLES Center - Los Angeles

Was visiting LA from Calgary, Alberta, CAN and took in a Kings game vs. Penguins. The ticketmaster service was flawless and picked up my tickets at willcall as promised. The game atmosphere and people were awsome. The venue is very modern and lots of activities/social establishments surrounding the Staples Centre. Highly recomend taking in a game. Ryan
