BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam, M.I.A. got her start as a designer and filmmaker before deciding to pursue her music career full-time in 2002. Experimenting with beats in her bedroom, she released her 2005 debut Arular, which was inspired by her father and their experiences in her childhood home of Sri Lanka. The album was met with universal acclaim, landing her on tour with LCD Soundsystem and Gwen Stefani and launching her to a new level of stardom. Since then, M.I.A. has released three studio albums, including 2013's Matangi, been nominated for numerous awards, and collaborated with some of music's biggest stars including Jay-Z and Madonna. With a laundry list of hits in her repertoire, it's no surprise she made Rolling Stone's "Best of the Decade" list in the 00's and was named one of the World's 100 Most Influential People by Time Magazine. Back on the road, M.I.A. continues to push the limits as she rocks the mic on her upcoming tour dates.

by dharmeshwar on 2010-09-24Sound Academy - TorontoGreat show! The sound was not great to be honest though. Opener Rye Rye was ok but had a lot of energy. MIA was as always amazing. Connected with the crowd right away. And basically ran through most of the expected songs with a healthy dose of Arular & Kala in addition to promoting the new album MAYA. Only downside is that it was more like MIA performing to the beats & sounds of a DJ as opposed to a live music setup. Just imagine adding a live bassist & a drummer for the rocker "Born Free" !!! would have been amazing! But that apart it was a thoroughly enjoyable show one that I would recommend for any music fan!!! Cheers!

I liked the first few albums better than this one but the show was still great. She gets the crowd involved (asked what we wanted to hear, got all the girls on stage). She's amazing.

by Tiiink on 2010-09-23Métropolis - MontrealM.I.A. was absolutly amazing!!!! she is a great performer, the whole thing seemed very real and natural, she didnt seem like she had been rehearsing for hours on end, it all came to her naturally which made it an amazing atmosphere! I would defenitely recommend everyone to go see her show if she comes again, I know I would go again!!!!! Even if you arent the biggest fan of her music, the atmosphere and sound is a great experience alone.
