  • Madeleine Peyroux is one of a kind!

by Ilovepurple on 2009-08-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

What a refreshing and rich opportunity to spend an evening with a true artist; unique and gifted. Like a breath of fresh air in a world struggling to discover new ideas Madeleine is a gift. I could only pick out a few words in the french songs but it didn't matter; the music reached across the barrier.

A rare talent. She is an original, shirking convention in favor of nurturing and unfolding extreme talent, creating her own sound and shameless presentation. Great bandmates who share her humility to the music not the performer. A treat.

  • Madeleine Peryrousis

Madeleine Peryrousis is an amazing artist as were here musicians. Talent beyond words. Well worth the cost!!!

  • Madeleine Peyroux Concert

by scotch on 2009-08-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Talented Individual, amazing band of talent, beautiful venue: All that was needed was a litle more umph. Thought that she should have put more effort into raising the roof with her fantastic voice, but given it wasn't a sell out, I can also understand the hold back. Overll, good show.

  • Madeleine always a treat to see and hear!!!

Madeleine is always an extraordinary and fabulous performer. A delicious voice and her use of it is a joy to experience. Everyone in her group also outstanding.

Beautiful voice, lots of variety in songs from love songs to drinking songs, a fabulous band of talented musicians

  • Madeleine Peyroux did not move.

by klaw on 2009-08-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Except for a couple of songs, a Leonard Cohen cover and a couple of others, Madeleine Peyroux did not move me. The backup band, particularly the keyboard player, was excellent but we never heard their names as Madeleine Peyroux gave them when the crowd was clapping in appreciation of their solos. Overall I was a bit disappointed but perhaps I was expecting a bit more for the money.

  • Madeleine just fine.

by EastvanD on 2009-08-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Madeleine and her fine backing band performed before a surprisingly, to me, small crowd last evening at the Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts. I knew of her primarily from her 2006 CD "Half the Perfect World" and she did several of the songs from that album that received air play when it was first released. What impressed me seeing her live was her own musicianship, both her playing and the quality of her newer self-penned songs. I was left wanting more as she could only be persuaded to sing one encore.

  • wonderful evening with Madeleine

  • Very bad

by TiTiRi on 2009-07-28The Danforth Music Hall Theatre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

First of all, there was a very poor performance before Madeleine Peyroux. Then when Miss Peyroux started, the audience was sleepy. Miss Peyroux was upset and clearly did everything possible to finish as soon as possible. It is not the first time I see Peyroux, and each time it was bad. A CD is better....

  • Madeleine Peyroux was fantastic

by camorton on 2009-07-26The Danforth Music Hall Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

She is such a fantastic vocalist and the show was awesome.

  • Why can't we be informed of the warm-up act?

by peejay on 2009-07-26The Danforth Music Hall Theatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Fine but was over-shadowed because I missed the opening act.

  • Madeleine Peyroux delivers!

by Jimbolovesmusic on 2009-07-17The Danforth Music Hall Theatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Madeleine Peyroux delivered a good concert. She was unassuming and chatty while playing many of my favourite songs. Her voice and instrumentation was consistent with what you hear on her CDs, but enhanced by the pleasure of watching her as well.

  • Madeleine is the real thing

by hoovey on 2009-07-17The Danforth Music Hall Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great night to kick off the start of summer. The band, venue, opening act and Madeleine were all fantastic. The music is unique, jazz with a bit of Billie Holliday but very much her own unique style and voice. I only recently became aware of Madeleine but now I will be a life-long fan.

  • Great show!

by Will on 2009-07-17The Danforth Music Hall Theatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

She sounds awesome live. The band was excellent too, and you can see they all love performing. If you love jazz, she's a must see.

  • Toronto Jazz Fest was AMAZINGGG!

by Karlie1 on 2009-07-16The Danforth Music Hall Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Seeing Madeleine Peyroux perform live was definately the highlight of the Toronto Jazz Fest! As a huge Billie Holliday fan, I was totally in awe at how similar their tones are. It was simply breathtaking! Focusing mainly on her new cd "Bare Bones," Madeleine Peyroux and company put on quite an entertaining show! I recommend seeing this to anyone who loves a good jazz ensemble! AMAZING! :)

  • Madeleine was all we expected and more so

by pretz on 2009-07-16The Danforth Music Hall Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was right, the music was intellegent, adept, intriqueing, and full of surprises. All in all a thoroughly entrancing evening. Thanks so much.

  • Madeleine was exceptional

by gentleaura on 2009-07-16The Danforth Music Hall Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Very nice show I'd love to watch her again. Right from the beginning of the show while she sings and give reasoning for the song is an exceptional way to start and it ended beautifully

  • MADELEINE PEYROUX IS NOT A JAZZ SINGER!

by Bernard on 2009-07-16The Danforth Music Hall Theatre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

Not that she doesn't give a good performance. she got a standing ovation at the end cause people really enjoyed her repertoire and her debonaire attitude on stage. It's just that she sang her own compositions and I expected more jazz. With that jazz approach in mind her most enjoyable musician was her drummer which tells you about the soloists (guitar and piano). My date loved it. B.

  • Singer or singer-songwriter?

by filosofr on 2009-07-16The Danforth Music Hall Theatre - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

I have been a fan ever since Dreamland. She has a fabulous voice. Too bad she feels she must write her own songs in order to be a total "artiste". Unfortunately, I found the songs to be very pedestrian.
