Mama Mia! Thatsa the Best Actors Yet!

by Bob21 on 2011-11-22National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This is the 5th time we have gone to see this particular show, and by far, this was the best one yet. Every actor adds their own personality to the role they play and these actors, from our point of view added more than did the others from before. Being able to get your pictures taken with them after the show was an added bonus as well, for a small donation to charity $20, you can get your picture taken with Donna and the Dynamos. All in all great fun. If you haven't seen it, it's definately worth a look. For any true ABBA Fan, it is a must see.

    Mamma Mia was fantastic

by siberra on 2011-11-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We bought the tickets for our 10 year old daughter. She was in heaven! She thought the performance was very funny but complained about some of the swearing since Donna should know better with all the kids in the audience :-). Well worth the price. A great show.

    Professionally Polished Presentation

by MusicalTheatreLover on 2011-11-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Even those not particularly keen on or familiar with ABBA's music would find lots to enjoy, from strong dance choreography and execution to the female principles - all of whom were strong vocally. I found the leading men somewhat less so. Curtain call evolved to a rocking reprise of Dancing Queen and Mama Mia. Mary Callanan was nominated to do a fund raising pitch that the Company is currently doing in support of AIDS/HIV research and treatment. She mentioned specific recipients that monies would go to. I'm not certain her Canadian audience was clear on whether this meant the money being raised would support Canadian intiatives - I know I wasn't, but that didn't stop me from making a donation.

Thought the one who played Donna's daughter could have played her age. I didn't think she played an 18-20 year old. But overall it was a good show. I also didn't picture Donna and her daughter to be brunette's when they have both have long blonde wavy hair in the movie.

    ABBA, Attitude and Energy . . .

by JingD on 2011-11-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Mamma Mia has become a familiar story, thanks to the movie version, previous productions and the enduring popularity of the ABBA music. So it takes a special energy and sense of saucy attitude to give a bright and sparkling twist to a presentation -- and that's what we enjoyed in Ottawa this past weekend! Congrats to the excellent cast for transporting us to a fun place, with fine singing, bouncy dances and cheeky comedy -- plus some touching nostalgia for anyone who lived through those free-spirited past decades.

    Mamma Mia was superb!

by Maria386 on 2011-11-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

this is the 6th time I've seen Mamma Mia (the play) and it just keeps getting better and better. I can anticipate the dialogue, the songs etc because of the many times I've seen it. However, this does not take away from the fact that it keeps my attention from start to finish. Fabulous presentation, fabulous story and I love everything about it. The lead actress playing Donna is by far, the one with the best vocals.

    Oh Mama Mia !!

by sergio1952 on 2011-11-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Simply wondeful. Very talented performers who were able to take us through all sort of emotions while singing quite well, especially the 2 lead performers. The only reason why I am not giving it a 5 star rating, is because I found the set ''ordinary'' where Broadway shows are usually much more elaborate.

Mamma Mia was well worth the time and money.

by Sunshine45 on 2011-11-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The actors were fantastic and looked like they were enjoying themselves. They all seemed to have strong voices. I have seen the movie and the same story is played out but in a different way and it was just as enjoyable and fun on stage as in the movie. In some ways this stage show was more fun then the movie. Loved it. Very playful. The only small negative would be with the sound sometimes when the actors turned their heads we would lose the sound and miss a few words or lines of the songs. In my case, since I know the songs, it is not a problem but for someone that doesn't know the songs it would be a problem. We sometimes lost the sound when the actors turned their heads-possible sound issue!

Mamma Mia! could have been better

by Tree2226 on 2011-11-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The music was wonderful but sometimes overpowered the singing. It is unfortunate that the touring groups aren't a little stronger. It was still a lot of fun but I wanted more.

I would see it a fourth time!

by Fille on 2011-11-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We had good seats. Fourth row but felt the sound of the actors' voice when they were speaking or signing wasn't loud enough. The sound could have been better. I wouldn't have want to be seating in the balcony area as I know those people didn't hear well enough.
