Emotionally hollow Pepperland
by SusanneS on 2018-02-27Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoI have never walked out of a live performance before - but I did here. I got halfway through and just decided that life's too short. I am unhappy to say that I was not the only one; there was a little stampede going on. I can't believe they apparently got a standing ovation - but it seems to be de rigeur these days; I think audiences feel honour bound to be nice and stand up even if they might not really like it. It felt like graduation night at the local drama/dance school - let's wear fun clothes! let's run this way! and that way! and all fall down! There was no connection to the music (atonal as it was) - each piece was danced the same way and with the same speed & rhythm.. There was no emotional connection between the dancers or between dancers and audience. And I feel that the Beatles influence - weak as it was - was a gratuitous come-on to get bums in the seat. And oy, the kids .... honestly, just who brings their small children and babies to a show? Really, no one under the age of 8 or 10 should be allowed in. It is inconsiderate and irritating to have squirmy, whiny kids around you.
