    Martin has pipes!

by DonnieT on 2011-02-03Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

I was introduced to Martin Sexton through my daughters and I consider myself a music aficionado, so I'm trying to figure out why I haven't seen him until now. He is a fabulous artist with a great voice, excellent lyrics and super stage presence. I will surely attend another one of his concerts.

Martin is the most talented musician I've seen

by benyamen on 2011-02-03Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

I've been a fan of Martin Sexton since my college roommate introduced me to his music over a decade ago and always dreamed of having the chance to see him live. When I found out he would be in Winnipeg I did everything possible to get there to see him and it was worth every penny and moment spent traveling. His vocal range, volume, guitar skills, and voice percussion were unlike anyone else I've ever seen live. A good part of the concert he didn't even need the microphone to be heard clearly and although he played the entire show solo on his guitar it often sounded like a full band when he included percussion from his voice and guitar. He is well worth seeing for anyone who appreciates a good singer/songwriter and you will definitely go to see him again.

    Martin Sexton - Truly Amazing

Another amazing performance by Martin Sexton. Went to the Hamilton show the next night, more intimate and relaxed at the studio, but equally good.

Martin was Amazing as always, but the crowd wasn't

by Logs on 2011-01-24Mod Club Theatre - Toronto

Martin was great as always! I was disappointed in the crowd. I don't think this was the best venue for his concert. The crowd was disrespectful and there was always a constant buzz of chatter even during the most beautiful and serene songs. It unfortunately took away from his performance because it was distracting. But like I said Martin was amazing. He is by far my all time favorite male singer and he connects very well with the crowd. It would have been 5 stars if it hadn't been for the crowd/venue!

He captivates the attention of every single person in the audience! You come out of his concert almost hypnotized. His voice has an amazing range and he can beat box REALLY well! Definitely one of the best concerts I've ever been to.

    Another solid performance.

by VelvetSmog on 2010-05-14Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

This was my sixth time seeing Martin play live over a 10 year span and the man still puts on an amazing show. The first half was by far my favorite part of the show as it was just him and his acoustic while the second half of the show saw his band join him on stage to go over some new material and some of his lesser known tracks. Although I did enjoy seeing the full band, there is something that is so pure and powerful when he is playing solo. Probably not at the top of my list if I were to compare past performances but 3 of the people with me who had never seen him before REALLY enjoyed the show.

Tired bones - but they still carried the show.

by Amberthisismyusername on 2010-05-14Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

This was the first time I'd ever seen Martin Sexton live and I was not disappointed. Despite the fact that this was his twenty fifth? show Martin kept pumping up the crowd with a good mix of spanking brand new tunes and a few oldies (Glory Bound, etc). And it wasn't just the band, the crowd was in really good spirits (perhaps there was a little help from the elements) - I don't think I've ever heard so many "sorry!" and "can you see?" in one room before. By the second half of the set, you could tell there was definitely some fatigue - but kudos to the drummer and organ/keyboard player (brothers) who just kept on smiling - in all honesty, they looked like they were the only two who really were soaking in every moment of the show at that point in time. But the crowd loved Martin and Martin for the most part seemed to love the crowd. Accolades to Mr. Ryan Montbleau who seduced all the ladies in the room (and by the looks of it a few boys) with his good-natured humour, quirky smile and catchy lyrics. Boys we'd welcome you back to Vancouver in an instant. Thanks for a very good night of music.

    Ditch the band

by Lawbs on 2010-05-14Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

My first time seeing Martin Sexton - I was looking forward to hearing this outstanding voice live. He treated us to a solo set, which was truly delightful - and things just went downhill after he invited the opening act Montbleau back to play with him. Montbleau was painstaking to listen to as an opening act - pairing up with Sexton for the last half of the show made me leave before I knew if they would even get an encore. I'll be listening to Live Wide Open to get this taste out of my mouth.

We never miss a chance to see Martin Sexton,he always delivers 110%. He seemed worn out at first but I think the love of his fans energized him into doing his usual amazing give it all performance. I mean 25 performances in 3 and a half weeks is grueling. The best surprise of the night was the incredible Ryan Montbleau Band!! I bought all three of their disks--never done that before and I have them playing as I write this. What a great sound---like David Bromberg only without the twang!!
