About

MATT ANDERSEN IN CONCERT:

Canadian folk and blues musician Matt Andersen is one of the hardest working artists on the road, averaging upwards of 200 live performances a year. It's easy to see why audiences love him -- Andersen is an impressive force to behold at his authentic live shows, and his virtuoso guitar playing and powerful vocals are matched with an equally impressive knack for connecting with fans. Whether he's covering classics like "Ain't No Sunshine" or performing cuts from his 2014 album Weightless, Anderson's passion and showmanship always elevate his material to the next level on his must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Hailing from the blue collar Canadian community of Perth-Andover, Matt Anderson got his start in 2002 with the band Flat Top. By the mid-'00s the budding bluesman was performing solo, honing the narrative-driven style he's become known for with extensive touring throughout the US and Canada. He made his album debut in 2007 with Second Time Around, following up with several acclaimed studio and live albums in 2008-09. He scored a considerable critical success in 2011 with the album Coal Mining Blues, which depicted working class stories from his hometown. In 2014 Anderson released the album Weightless to another round of critical praise, building excitement among fans for his continued touring.

    Matt Andersen is unbelievable!!!

by alwayshopeful on 2011-10-14Myer Horowitz Theatre - Edmonton

Matt Andersen was fantastic. His voice was mesmerizing, powerful but could also be ever so gentle as was shown with the song "Coal Mining Blues". HIs guitar playing beyond belief. This man is going places.... The more the crowd got involved with his music the more passionate he played. You get the feeling that there is nowhere he would rather be that in front of you playing his music. Most of the songs that he sings are songs that he has written and composed and you know he is speaking from his heart and soul. He always meets the crowd after his concerts and happily signs cd's and chats with people.

I saw Matt at both the Edmonton and Calgary Folk Festivals and this show at the Myer Horowitz again did not dissappoint. Matt puts on an amazing show in any type of venue.

    Matt & Del Canadian Troubadors

by Next12 on 2011-10-14Myer Horowitz Theatre - Edmonton

Unbelievable, only one of the words to describe the evening with Matt and Del. When my tickets were purchased I was looking forward to hearing Matt again (he was a guest on Stewart McLeans Christmas Show Dec. 2010) and also, at the Folk Fest. He didn't let me down he was terrific. The surprise was Del Barber as he was a musician I had never heard of before. It's funny, in both musical style (and size) they delivered their songs with so much heart and depth it was truly a "magical" evening. If either of them comes to Edmonton again I will make sure my friends and family have the opportunity to hear two truly Great Canadian musicians. I'm a Believer.

Fantastic show. Gotta love when guitar strings are flying everywhere. Never seen someone restring and tune so fast. You can tell that Matt really just loves to play. Nice to see we still have some great raw talent in this country and it is not just manufactured music to make big companies profits.

Matt Anderson was born to sing!

by kellygurll on 2011-10-14Myer Horowitz Theatre - Edmonton

I had heard Matt Anderson a few times on CBC Radio, which prompted me to buy a cd. However, the recordings do not do his voice any justice. He is an amazing singer and a great guitar player. His voice filled the room. I can't wait until he returns!

Matt Andersen + Del Barber = Awesome

by Anonymous on 2011-09-23West End Cultural Centre - Winnipeg

Excellent show! Didn't know who the "guest" was until he showed up on stage. Del Barber: great story teller and songwriter/singer. Matt Andersen - this guy is incredible. Got the crowd to sing along. Whipped his hair around, plays blistering guitar, and great crowd interaction.

    Matt Anderson

by Blinded on 2011-09-23West End Cultural Centre - Winnipeg

Guitar playing and unique guitar techniques were awesome (in the truest definition of the word). The ability to play as he did without looking at his fingers was to me mind blowing. Great entertainer

Matt Andersen is a sensational musician and seems like a really down-to-earth guy who the crowd can relate to. Del Barber, the opening act, was also a great performer. Overall, a great evening.

    Sweating to the oldies

by Bluesier on 2011-09-22West End Cultural Centre - Winnipeg

Matt Andersen's performance was spectacular (although he could use a hair tie, except that's probably part of his persona/shtick!). Most of the numbers were from his Live CD. The seats were far too close together and the temperature was oppresively hot, all 4 of us in our group agreed. The bar service was unusually slow, resulting in a long line.

    Matt Anderson with Del Barber

by Festivaller on 2011-09-22West End Cultural Centre - Winnipeg

Simply excellent. Matt was passionate and his voice amazing. The venue (West End Cultural Center) had excellent acoustics, but they crammed way to many people in hall. There was no legroom and the seating was uncomfortable.

    Matt Andersonis a special entertainer

by DRVTO on 2011-08-18Massey Hall - Toronto

I attended the Buddy Guy concert at Massey Hall in spring of 2011. Matt opened the show and had the audience in the palm of his hand shouting for more. This was a solo acoustic performance that sounded bigger than some bands. Not many shows standout as memorably as this Matt Anderson masterpiece.

    Matt Anderson

by DustinDFernature on 2011-07-22West End Cultural Centre - Sept 20 - Winnipeg

I see a lot of live music and am occasionaly impressed. Rarely, really rarely, have I ever been as impressed with a talent, as I was when I saw Matt Anderson perform at the Winnipeg Folk Festival. In one performance he became my new favourite artist and I was lucky enough to catch him two more times that same weekend. Every time he performed he received standing ovations and left people with their mouths gaping. This performer is not to be missed. Incredible talent, that will very soon be filling large venue's. I am happy to say that I am headed to Edmonton next week to see him again.

Matt Andersen is an amazing talent and is one of Canada's treasures. Cant wait to see him again. Cannot believe he is not under a major label. Go see this guy and buy all of his music. Mike Stevens is a great harp player! Great seeing them together.

Absolutely mind blowing. The harmonica musician was an added bonus. Overall, best concert I have ever been to and a rare treat to see that much talent in such a small venue.
