About

MATT ANDERSEN IN CONCERT:

Canadian folk and blues musician Matt Andersen is one of the hardest working artists on the road, averaging upwards of 200 live performances a year. It's easy to see why audiences love him -- Andersen is an impressive force to behold at his authentic live shows, and his virtuoso guitar playing and powerful vocals are matched with an equally impressive knack for connecting with fans. Whether he's covering classics like "Ain't No Sunshine" or performing cuts from his 2014 album Weightless, Anderson's passion and showmanship always elevate his material to the next level on his must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Hailing from the blue collar Canadian community of Perth-Andover, Matt Anderson got his start in 2002 with the band Flat Top. By the mid-'00s the budding bluesman was performing solo, honing the narrative-driven style he's become known for with extensive touring throughout the US and Canada. He made his album debut in 2007 with Second Time Around, following up with several acclaimed studio and live albums in 2008-09. He scored a considerable critical success in 2011 with the album Coal Mining Blues, which depicted working class stories from his hometown. In 2014 Anderson released the album Weightless to another round of critical praise, building excitement among fans for his continued touring.

    Matt Andersen - incredible performer/entertainer

by padi432 on 2012-02-05The Banff Centre - Eric Harvie Theatre - Banff

This was the 4th time that we we're fortunate enough to have see Matt perform live & there is no better venue to do just that than the Eric Harvie Theatre in Banff. Matt is a truly gifted musician and entertainer. We look forward to catching him the next time his travels have him back in southern Alberta. Del Barber opened for Matt and was very enjoyable, we plan to also travel back to Banff to take in Del's headliner show on April 29th. If you ever get an opportunity to see either one of these guys perform, don't pass it up!!

Del as an opener was perfect; great storytelling and easy to listen to songs. Then along came Matt and blew us away with voice and guitar riffs...great show.

    Outstanding

by MelandJohnny on 2011-10-30Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

We first learned of Matt at Stuart McLean's Christmas concert. Since then we've become Matt fans. This is now the fourth time we've seen Matt in concert and if I were to quote my husband....he just keeps getting better and better. And, that statement is almost hard to believe --- how could Matt get better when he's already mind blowing! But it is true! Matt's concert was outstanding! We enjoyed every minute. A star is truly born!!! We look forward to many more concerts.

Matt Andersen - a phenom of our times

by Gettyup on 2011-10-27L'Astral - Montreal

One has to see to believe Matt Andersen....He is undoubtedly the hottest commodity Canada has to offer today in certainly the blues genre, but also has appeal to rock/ folk and a little country! fans This talented guy has a set of pipes on him and is the best guitarist I have ever seen. He sounds like a 6-piece band and, yet, he plays by himself with one guitar. This is one of the best shows I have ever seen.

If you missed it, you SO missed out

by CdnmusicLover on 2011-10-24Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

This was quite simply a musical memory; one of those concerts that keep popping up every time you make a 'best ever' list from here on in. Start with the eclectic picking and lyrics of Old Man Luedeke, who weaves an subtle web of simple music and words. Enter Matt, who smacks you in the mouth with hard hitting blues guitar and a gravel voice that reveals the soul required to play this music convincingly.

Matt Andersen - AMAZING! Pure Talent.

by RushFan44 on 2011-10-15Myer Horowitz Theatre - Edmonton

Matt Andersen is a truly amazing talent. If you like blues or just a good gig, you have to go see him. Him, his guitar and some stage lights. It was raw, powerful & truly awesome to watch. If you are a fan of music in general, you will not be disappointed with this show. He cuts up an acoustic guitar with a raw power, emotion and musical intensity rarely seen on stage. He is definitely a musician who loves music and loves what he does. I've seen U2, The Rolling Stones, Rush, AC/DC, BB King, BTO and many more and Matt's show could hold up to any one of them in terms of raw musical power.

    Heart and soul.

by dpg1956 on 2011-10-14Myer Horowitz Theatre - Edmonton

I drove 2 1/2 hrs. to see the concert and I enjoyed it very much. The personallity and heart that he put in the songs touches a persons soul. Matt voice is always enjoyable but he needs to a little less head bobbing.
