About

Brooklyn experimental rockers MGMT released their self-titled third album in 2013 while continuing to play headlining concert dates and festivals all over the world. Fans scooped up tickets to hear songs like "Kids," "Electric Feel," and "Congratulations." The band's singular style of psychedelic noise-pop, which integrates plenty of electronica elements, was forged beginning in 2002 by founders Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden when they were freshmen at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Their debut album, Oracular Spectacular, was released in 2006, and MGMT started gaining fans with the help of their opening sets for trend-setting acts like Of Montreal, Radiohead, and Beck. By 2009, MGMT could count Paul McCartney among their growing stable of fans, and they landed a spot opening for the ex-Beatle at Boston's Fenway Park. On tour, the five-piece group has been known to augment the flower-power vibe of their music by projecting repeated colorful, kaleidoscopic images and other random visuals on a backdrop behind the stage.

MGMT great, crowd not so much...

by Anonymous on 2010-08-09Kool Haus - Toronto

MGMT is my favourite band, and I had an unforgettable evening when I saw them play the Mod Club back in April. It was so intimate and music was unbelievable. The crowd at the Kool Haus show was ridiculous. There was so much pushing for such a chill band. I was in the third row and ended up moving to the back so I could actually move and dance a bit. Overall the music was great, but I just wish the crowd hadn’t been so annoying.

    MGMT was...Good

by Mmaxiumus on 2010-08-07Kool Haus - Toronto

A good concert, it didn't exactly blow my mind. Long enough and they played almost all of the songs from their last two albums plus one or two from the EP. Honestly, their music is more enjoyable on the recordings, but I still had a ton of fun. The audience was wild, and we went crazy for the obvious hits but it wasn't just a bunch of posers either. A good concert for sure.

MGMT = TMGM Unmemorable Kool Haus Event

by yesterday on 2010-08-06Kool Haus - Toronto

Truly the sound was shameful. Kool Haus should not be allowed to host concerts if they can't properly get the sound working. Lyrics were undecipherable. Too bad. But MGMT was sleepy and not entirely charming. So maybe it didn't matter that much. Just listen to their album really loud next time in your own house. You'll get just as much out of it. And I bet your speakers are better too.

    Great Concert!

by FaymussFlyer on 2010-08-06Kool Haus - Toronto

Amazing concert, but don't take your friends if they didn't like Congratulations! I enjoyed every second of the show but everyone else just appeared to be in a daze waiting for songs they've heard on the radio. If you appreciate good music and creativity, you will love this show. If not, go see Justin Beiber or a catch the New Kids on the Block reunion tour!

    Disappointing

by valpr on 2010-07-26Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I love MGMT and their music, but I was expecting a lot more from this concert! First of all, they were so normal that it wasn't as entertaining as I thought it would be. From watching their videos I thought they would be more energetic and weird and eye catching, but they weren't. But what really made me mad was the sound - the vocals were not clear, very muffled and I don't go to a concert just to hear the instruments - I want to hear the lead singer and listen to the lyrics!! Bad sound person!! The lighting was cool and the effects behind them were entertaining but it was a little dark and they never lit their faces so I couldn't see their expressions which was disappointing. Overall, the hit songs were fun but it wasn't the greatest show.

I had such an amazing time. I love MGMT and they played an unbelievable show. They blew my mind away. They sound even better live and the audience was pumped for anything and everything they threw at us. I even met the band as they came out of the front door after the show.
