About

World-renowned DJ and super-producer Moby dropped his 11th studio album Innocents in October 2013, impressing fans yet again with the announcement that it was entirely recorded in his Los Angeles apartment. Moby is best known for the 1999 musical milestone, “Play,” which not only sold 10 million copies and produced eight singles, but also turned EDM into a household name. In 2013, Moby entertained ticket holders with both old and new songs, covering popular and lesser-known material from all 11 of his studio albums. Between a small tour in support of “Innocents,” as well as a handful of west coast DJ sets and festivals, Moby keeps concertgoers in both theaters and rave tents happy with his massive energy and stage presence. His newest album "Innocents" is an ambient and introspective LP. It features a broad range of guest collaborators, including Skylar Grey, Cold Specks, Mark Lanegan, Damien Jurado and Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips.

Cycling through several pseudonyms, Moby had his breakthrough as Moby with his single "Go." In 1993, Moby signed with Mute Records and in 1999, his fifth studio album "Play" sold millions, sky-rocketing him into super stardom. “Innocents” is the first album Moby has made that is self-produced, and this new creative approach has helped generate some of the artist's most mesmerizing and ambient electro-pop in years. Considered by AllMusic as "one of the most important dance music figures of the early 90s," Moby will not disappoint in the days to come. From early 1990s rave anthems and forays into break-beat hardcore to the gorgeous melodies and string arrangements on classic albums, like “Play,” “18” and “Wait for Me,” a Moby concert runs the stylistic gamut when it comes to music. It's like watching a master DJ make a great mix tape right before your eyes.

    unexpected but interesting

by jennigrrl on 2009-09-29Kool Haus - Toronto

The set was way more chilled than I had expected, he only played a handful of his banging upbeat tracks, most of the night was slow vibe-y more introspective music. But it was great, his live band is incredibly talented. The two female vocalists were very strong singers, delivered emotional performances. Despite the fact that I expected a more dance driven set it was still very enjoyable. Moby's banter between songs is self deprecating and endearing.

If you were one of the lucky ones to have been at Kool Haus for Moby on Monday night well, congratulations! This man knows how to pull out every musical stop imaginable with a great band and dynamite vocals from various guests. Moby laid on speed metal, funk, rock, blues, disco and an assortment of wild lighting and theatrics...wow! What an evening.

He is just awesome! Funny, open, talented! Great music and friendly atmosphere! Although it was really strange at the beginning when unknown girl from his band started to play music from her iPod. :)

A rocking Moby gathers no moss

by fishmum on 2009-09-29Kool Haus - Toronto

Moby is a wily 44-year old who has a body of work which works perfectly for an assembled crowd. His kindly, almost sheepish, banter is heartfelt and convincing. He genuinely seems like he'd be a good guy to hang around with. And then there's the music. Forgive the 44-year old forays into his new songs, reworked songs and covers; his heart and soul 'known' works are manna to music fans. From his rave beginnings he finds the emotion which is live music and delivers it in resounding fashion song after song. He surrounds himself with not only competent players, he forgoes his ego and delights the crowd with not one, but two wailing singers who, more often than Moby, take the lead vocals. And if you think that Moby is a noodling techno-geek...well, that's where you'd be way off the mark. The beauty of a Moby show is that it is all live music, recreated by people and their instruments, not loops and canned beats. From the violin strains which open 'Extreme Ways' to the Ella Fitzgerald vocals which dominate 'Why does my heart feel so bad,' it all feels good, familiar and tingly.

    Worth 5X the ticket price!

    by Dj59 on 2009-07-13The Plaza Club (r.i.p.) - Vancouver

I flew from Edmonton to Vancouver to see "the little idiot" doing a dj set in The Plaza Club last November (2008). With all the larger recordings and stage shows he has been doing, it's easy to forget that Moby started off as a club dj - but he certainly hasn't forgotten. Moby was absolutely MONSTER behind the decks, spinning and mixing a massive wall of dance sounds that totally shook the club and those in it. He resisted using too much of his recorded material, but at one point he ripped into yet another mix version of GO, different from any I had heard before, and it was... well, awesome - really awesome! MOBY was up there for about 2 hours and was worth more than what I spent for the event... and it was an event. Apparently MOBY is landing in Edmonton in October 2009 - I definitely rate this as a don't miss concert!!
