Montreal Canadiens History
With an NHL-record 24 Stanley Cup Championships, eight conference championships, 24 division titles, and a Hall of Fame contingent of more than 50 players and more than a dozen coaches and executives, the Canadiens have an unrivaled pedigree.
The team, founded in 1909 as part of the National Hockey Association (forebear to the NHL), won its first Stanley Cup Championship in 1916. Behind legendary center Howie Morenz, Montreal added championships in 1924, 1930 and 1931. The latter two titles came at the Montreal Forum, the arena they would call home for 70 years. In 1942 the league was reduced to six teams; the Candiens were selected as one of the remaining teams to form the “Original Six” and the foundation of the league we know today.
With eventual Hall of Fame right wing Maurice ("Rocket") Richard anchoring the "Punch Line" with Elmer Lach and Toe Blake, the Canadiens won a Stanley Cup Championship in 1944 and '46. Blake would return as head coach in the next decade, piloting them to five consecutive Stanley Cup Championships between 1956 and 1960. The Canadiens won four more Stanley Cup Championships in the 1960s (three under Blake).
Sparked by future Hall of Famers such as Guy Lafleur, Ken Dryden and Larry Robinson, the Habs earned six Stanley Cup Championships in the 1970s — five with Scotty Bowman at the helm. Bowman would go on to become the winningest coach in NHL history.
The Canadiens won six division championships and three conference titles and made the Playoffs every year in the 1980s, adding one Stanley Cup Championship to their resumé when they defeated the Calgary Flames to close out the 1985-1986 season behind the goaltending of rookie Patrick Roy. They returned to the Finals in 1993, again behind Roy, to beat the Los Angeles Kings.

Since 1996, the Montreal Canadiens have played their home games at the Bell Centre, originally known as the Molson Centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the Bell Centre has a capacity of 21,105 for hockey games, making it the largest ice hockey arena in the world.
The Montreal Canadiens’ 2023–24 regular season kicks off in October at Scotiabank Arena, when the Canadiens face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Canadiens have made 35 appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, and have won the Stanley Cup 24 times (in 1916, 1924, 1930, 1931, 1944, 1946, 1953, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1986 and 1993) — the most out of any NHL team.

Loved every bit of it. It was my first NHL game and the atmosphere at Bell Centre was great. Also, I was there on my own and as a leaf fan. And I loved being surrounded by Habs and Leafs alike, all being nice to eachother, with some chirping now and then, but always in good spirits. I wish it wasn't that expensive, so that I could do it more often.

The experience and the atmosphere at the Bell Center is one of a kind for a hockey game. Will definitely do it again.
The game was great, very closely played but the icing on the cake was when Toronto won the game. The Bell Centre was the perfect place to enjoy the game with the variety of food and beverage offerings.
Ricky Martin and Pitbull gave great performances but Enrique Iglesias didn’t sing half of his song, besides asking the crowd to scream and sing we didn’t heard him too much, pathetic
Going for a hockey game in Centre Bell is such an amazing experience. The atmosphere, the fans and its history is just amazing ! Recommended for new people into the sport as well as long time fan

Always a pleasure to see my team the NY Islanders play. However they did lose by 1 goal. It was a great night also for Patrick Roy come back at the Bell Centre. Major ovation!!! Only recommendation i have is to have the seats just a little 2024 wider. I think they are still measured from people back in the Maurice Richard years (1955) lol People are taller & bigger in 2024 . Maybe adjust the seats to 2024? cheers & God Bless the NHL hockey ♪
The HABS played an excellent game and came from behind to beat Colorado 4-3. The crowd was loud and intense but very respectful of the game. Food courts were incredibly crowded and could have used a few more health-conscious choices. The Bell Center is an awesome arena and very easy to get to via Metro.
Amazing atmosphere and game, even though my team lost against the Habs.
Always a special experience to see a Habs game in Montreal
Once in a lifetime experience. All I’ve dreamed of and more. To walk in at ice level and look into the rafters as a Habs fan it literally takes your breath away. All the great moments and history that is right before your eyes . Wonderful experience that every fan should have if possible.
The Bell Centre is incredible. We had such a fantastic time and everyone was so helpful and nice. We came from out of town and will definitely be back!
Best league team and best goaltender in town, 3 intense periods with astonishing goaltending from Montembault, overtime found no winner and shootout was brilliant. Dad and son event at a glance :)
