    Solomon the Surgeon !!

by Cosenzagirl13 on 2012-01-02Bathurst Street Theatre - Toronto

Going into this with an open mind,he had me in stitches within the first ten minutes. The memories that were brought back from my childhood was as if he was part of the family. The stories Steve talked about transcends all nationalities and I'm sure anyone attending his show could relate. Mr. Solomon's banter with the audience makes you feel as if you are sitting in your livingroom and not at the theatre. His facial expressions can only be described as spot on, we all have relatives who resemble the faces he morphes into during his act.

Even though I'm neither Jewish nor Italian, growing up in Hamilton provided lots of opportunity for interaction with those 2 communities. It was a lighthearted, funny, nostalgic trip down memory lane. A very welcome way to spend a couple of hours on New Years Eve Day.

    Hilarious, Loved it!

by RITZ1990 on 2012-01-01Bathurst Street Theatre - Toronto

I loved this show and would recommend it to people I know. I was laughing throughout and enjoyed it very much. I knew it was a one man show, but didn't know how much laughter to expect. Better than I expected!! As long as people have a sense of humour, you SHOULD enjoy it!!!!

    Don't waste your time.

by ronit on 2011-12-26Bathurst Street Theatre - Toronto

This meant to be an uni-personal on a very rich subject. Instead we got to see a poor compilation of old jokes with a almost in-existent storyline. The script must have been written several decades ago.

I thought this was going to be a really funny type of play but it was a one man show. He started slow but the second part was funny. Not worth the $53.00. Front row seats were old, and uncomfortable.

    Worst show

by Anonymous on 2011-12-18Bathurst Street Theatre - Toronto

The jokes were flat and not funny...theatre was half empty and did not have the right atmospheres....people came late and left early...cell phones were on...etc... I do not recommend it to anyone!!

    Lines to live by!

by Hechy on 2011-12-13Bathurst Street Theatre - Toronto

I must admit I went into this play with no expectations other than to get a good laugh, Steve made me laugh and a half. He had some lines in there that were unforgettable and had to be tweeted right after, LOL! Clever and fun. Its not overly dramatic so if you are looking for drama and action this is not the play for you but if you want some relate-able jokes and ludicrous responses seeeeeeeeeee it.

    Just OK

by NZer on 2011-12-13Bathurst Street Theatre - Toronto

I would have been happier with the show paying $20 instead of $60. It was amusing but I didn't outright laugh much. I have recently been to shows with a lot more energy and laughs for half the cost.

    review of My mother's Italian.....

by 21linda84 on 2011-12-05Bathurst Street Theatre - Toronto

The venue was very nice. no bad seats in the house. I found the content to be funny and well presented . most of the content I had heard before but again the presentation was very good. The actors sense of timing brought out the best in the show. I expected it to be humorous and I was not disappointed . good luck with your future shows.

    No original material

by Italoyid on 2011-12-05Bathurst Street Theatre - Toronto

While it was amusing there is no original material to be found in this show. This is a collection of old often heard Italian and Jewish jokes and caricatures, with a few modern airline security jokes thrown in. The show was not written by the performer - it's a script for him, and he clearly lacks of any real connection to the characters he's talking about. A far cry from what you might expect from a show billed and presented as being based on personal experience. His accents occasionally slip as well, so you get the Italian content in the Yiddish accent or vice versa.

My Mother's Italian My Father's Jewish

by Titchy on 2011-11-29Bathurst Street Theatre - Toronto

hilarious. Affordable. Held in a very small, very very old theatre which showed its age. But that had zero impact on the integrity of the performance and helped to keep the costs down per ticket (I suspect). I would recommend it to anyone unless you don't appreciate ethnic stereotypes. My husband is Italian and he roared. Paul Kreppel is very good at his job. It was even entertaining to see him deal with an email texter in the audience.

My Mothers Italian, My Fathers Jewish and I'm in

by Cuzzie6 on 2011-11-28Bathurst Street Theatre - Toronto

Steve Solomon was a genius......the entire audience was laughing throughout the entire performance. It was heartwarming to be entertained with laughter. I would never return to any performance at the Bathurst Street theatre until the seats are replaced. They were very very very uncomfortable.
