    Disappointed

by DooWopfans on 2018-03-19National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Not sure if it was the microphones or the orchestra overpowering the singers but for much of the show, particularly the first half, we could not hear the vocals. In addition, it seemed like 5 good singers thrown together instead of one group in harmony. If we compare it to Forever Plaid or Rockapella, it is a failed project. Sorry.

It was a great concert. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We were a little disappointed that it took at least 3 songs before the sound of the mike on the first singer to be turned up, when it was rectified, all was good. At times the band was a little overpowering, which again I think is a miking problem with the singers not the band. The Pops band was good, I especially liked hearing the piccolo and bells in a few of the pieces. It was electrifying! The orchestra seats were great (worth the extra $), lots of leg room. The aisle was perfect for my husband, who likes to move around and good view and sound.

The Sounds of Simon and Garfunkel show

by tycb on 2018-02-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Very enjoyable evening. The performers were very good and did justice to the original artists in their harmonizing. We enjoyed being at the front avoiding the obstruction of other people's heads which would be the case for me otherwise. We did think that perhaps having a box seat would provide a better view of the orchestra for a performance such as this.

The NAC Orchestra was superb as always, and the vocalists were fantastic. A truly beautiful evening of reminiscing with Simon & Garfunkel.

My husband and I had a great time. We had great seats, the conductor, mc and singers were all very entertaining with the back and forth comments. And the music and singing was amazing. Couldn't have asked for more.i

    Expected Better Voice Talent

by klamchowder on 2017-12-22National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I've attended "Pop" concerts like these before so was really looking fwd to this one. Unfortunately the two male singers were lacking especially when there were accents involved. Aaron Phillips was the stronger voice and got points for enthusiasm, and Andrew Johnson looks like he can really salsa, but I was there to hear them really belt out the iconic tunes. Although their bios read impressively, it was a far cry from Broadway quality - not sure if the cold was just too shocking for them. At least the two female singers were stronger. We sat in Row G. A couple of audience members in the row in front of us left after a few songs. Three audience members next to us did not return after the intermission. We stayed because I am a big Disney fan so enjoyed seeing the movie clips and hearing the scores. Normally, I would buy tickets to every show like this but will give this a pass next time. As for the hostess/MC, I expected it to 50/50 bilingual but was surprised that it was more along the lines of 3 minutes of French and 20 seconds of English - certainly unexpected since we were in Ontario still. Orchestra was good. Conductor was unassuming and charming.

    PERFECT

by LMLM on 2017-12-19National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This show was just amazing! The singers are incredible, what they can do with their voices and they are a show by themselves. NOT to be missed for sure!

    amazing singers delightful orchestra

by KayK1 on 2017-12-19National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

They could not have found a better ensemble - the performance was great. The ONLY issue was the microphones were over modulated so tended to blur the voices. It was a shame because at a slightly lower volume they would have really stood out on their vocal merits soring with the orchestra instead of blurring out the orchestra.

    A feel good event

by Vanguard2001 on 2017-11-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The simplicity of the theme made the movie very enjoyable. The music made it fantastic. I found my self being very moved by the combination of the authentic acting of the 50's and the beautiful musical interpretation by the NAC orchestra. The one negative point was the small size of the movie screen. The immersion in the movie would have been much better with a larger square screen.

I loved the movie, which I'd never seen, and the NAC Orchestra did such a lovely job with the score! I was very impressed with my first NAC Pops experience and will definitely be going back.

Loved the live orchestra! Jack Everly should be so proud of this. It was so unique and fascinating. Loved having the words on the screen too.

    Another Great Concert

by Robert345 on 2017-06-28National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We have seen the Tenors several times before at the NAC, however this was the first time as a group of three. The event was great and entertainment, however I believe they sang too many songs from other artists.
