The show was truly fantastic!! Enjoyed it! What I didn't enjoy was the number of people coming in late and having the flashlight in my face while they were having their seats pointed out for them. :(

Great show, but quiet dialogue, terrible seatmate

by NBelle on 2015-02-17Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Great show, but we could not hear the dialogue very well at all. the only reason we knew what was being said for the most part was because we were familiar with the story from the movie. We were in the very back as high as you can be, four rows from the back of the entire theatre, and at first we thought the sound was because we were too far away. However I was talking with several mothers in line during the intermission who were having the same problem, even one who was 10 rows from front centre, and she could not hear the dialogue well either. Other than that, fabulous show, fab singing, chorography, sets, music, everything, we really enjoyed it. (We could hear the singing loud and clear) To the Jubilee theatre: terrible experience - we were seated next to a mother who came in at the very last second before curtain, who had ONE seat and sat her 5 year old daughter on her lap. She was escorted in by an usher who ALLOWED her to do this, so my son was bothered during the whole play by her coats and daughters leg, and we were subjected to the daughter whining that she was uncomfortable. The mother to top it all off, was not interested in the show and kept checking her (very large bright) phone. Terrible. Apparently she had bought 2 tickets, singles a few rows apart and the Jub or someone told her she could seat her kid on her lap! This should NEVER have been allowed. We all paid for our seats and all deserve to have a good experience. During intermission I sought out different ushers and complained - asked them to find her 2 seats together so we could enjoy the second half better. Nothing was done. I didn't want to ruin the day for my mother and my kids so I said very little to her other than to ask her before the second half not to use her phone, to which she replied "I wasn't". Several people after the show thanked us for saying something as it was very bad for all of us around her. thank you.

    Not What I Expected

by jubyjames on 2015-02-17Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Felt cheap and not as good as it could be. The beasts costume lacked something awful. His tail was way too long and under the harsh lighting his mask looked so fake, and he was way too short to the be the beast. The beast is supposed to be way larger and daunting. Voice wasn't deep enough either. His screaming out loud and acting retarded turned me off completely. Songs were added that were not in the original movie which didn't make any sense. That time could have been used better. Belles costume for the main dance in the ballroom was completely wrong. First of all it was supposed to be off the shoulders and way bigger and fluffier, instead it was hiked up to her neck and there was a tacky bow right in the centre and she had tacky yellow ribbons in her hair either. Total bom! I know the dresses can look better the Beauty and Beast performance at Disney World Orlando blew this performance out of the water! I'm sorry but I was so exited and this performance was more for 3 year old children than anyone else. At nearly 300 dollars for me and my hubby to go see this it was totally not worth the money you pay!

Very well done. The cast was amazing, and the stage production was top of the line. Effects were ridiculous. Over all just a great experience!

Beauty and the Beast did not Disappoint

by Tams30 on 2015-02-17Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

For the most part the play was stunning! I am always fascinated by the sets, props and costumes. The musical number with Gaston at the tavern and the "be our guest" scene were my favorite! We didn't like the "extra" songs that were created for the sake of the stage show. Seemed to really drag the show on unnecessarily. Wish it would have stayed true to the movie completely. We were in the front row of the first balcony and had a really hard time hearing the speaking, especially when there was music playing too. Higher volume would have been great! It wasn't as good as Lion King, but overall was an enjoyable experience!

Beauty and the Beast was disappointing

by smunchkin on 2015-02-16Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I was very disappointed with the show. I came expecting a very family friendly, wholesome bit of entertainment. I am disappointed with how suggestive and provocative it was, from Babette's revealing costume ( her bum pretty much visable) to the grinding onstage between her and Lumiere, and the provocative costume and dance of the 'Be our Guest' segment. As well as all the suggestive humor strewn throughout the show. There were plenty of children present the night I went as well I'm sure all the other nights. Little girls dressed in their best Belle outfit. I was very sad that they were subject to such a display.

    Beauty and the Beast

by JessShau on 2015-02-16Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The show was fantastic, and the actors did an amazing job. The stage, the lighting, the live band, the props, and the costumes were all incredible. There was only one thing wrong with the show that left me with the overall feeling of disappointment, and that something had been missing from the performance. The issue was with the sound. It was very difficult to hear half the time when the actors were speaking. Sometimes the music would be louder than the actors, and other times it just seemed that the mics were too low. I almost wished that the words were displayed on a screen, like they do for translations. Because the sound was too low, it took away from the whole performance and left me feeling dissatisfied with the entire show. If had been able to hear all the words there would have been nothing wrong with the show.
