So, I went to the Norm MacDonald show on the weekend and came away profoundly disappointed. Norm was funny, although the time he spent swirling his rye inside his coke can was a bit telling. The problem was that he was billed as the headliner and he opened for Kevin Nealon. Kevin is not a headliner by any stretch of the imagination, and I left the show felling underwhelmed. The biggest disappointment was the venue. The Club Regent Event Centre is terribly mapped out and horribly managed. The show started at 8 and the ushers were loudly seating people until 9, half way through Norm's set. I unfortunately sat close to the side where people were entering and missed half the jokes. The staff need to be better trained and the event should prohibit late arrivals within reason, or at least be better organized so as to not disrupt the people who cared enough to show up on time. Again, it didn't help that people were showing up late to avoid Kevin Nealon and instead missed half of Norm's shows. I have yet to have a good experience at an event put on at our local casinos, I guess I shouldn't expect Las Vegas on the prairies.
