Novo Amor on Tour

The soft-spoken and melancholy voice is a staple for the ultra-talented singer, songwriter and producer Novo Amor. The Welsh indie-rock and folk artist is set to commence his 2022 tour, making 28 stops across Brazil, Canada and the United States. Novo Amor's multi-instrumental talent mixed with his hypnotic and soulful singing creates an incredible performance. One concertgoer wrote, "Novo Amor was absolutely amazing live. Their vocals are unreal. It was one of the best concerts I've ever attended, so glad I got to go." First finding success in 2014 with his EP Woodgate, NY, Novo Amor continued to produce and release mesmerizing hits. Following his first EP, Novo Amor released Bathing Beach in 2017 and his dual album with Ed Tullett, Heiress, that same year. Novo Amor's debut album, Birthplace, was released in 2018 and was soon followed by his short two-song EP No Fun / Lucky For You with Gia Margaret. His next album, Cannot Be, Whatsoever, followed in 2020, and his most recent album, Antarctican Dream Machine, was released in 2022.

Novo Amor was born Ali John Meredith-Lacey in Llanidloes, Wales. He currently lives in his half-home, half-music studio in Cardiff, Wales. He began his music career following a breakup, choosing the name Novo Amor, meaning "New Love" in Portuguese. Novo Amor's interest in music began around the age of 10 when he started skateboarding. In an interview with performermag.com Novo Amor said, "Skateboarding and music seemed to go hand in hand, with all the music you hear on the skate tapes." From there, he fell in love with rock and punk music, listening to bands like Green Day, The Offspring and AFI. Novo Amor joined his first band at 13 and has been producing and recording music ever since. His unique and beautifully produced 2015 cover of Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" was used in an Axe/Lynx advertising campaign. Novo Amor has more than 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with his most popular songs "Anchor," "State Lines" and "Carry You" having a combined more than 430 million streams.

Amazing, must see, and better than expected.

by Nathanael McCooeye on 2022-10-06Théâtre Corona - Montreal

My favourite band did not disappoint live. Ed Tullet opened as Lowswimmer on acoustic, and I did not hear a false note. Beautiful music as always. Their other opening artist, Lotelo, was also musically interesting and contrasted nicely with the rest of the music. Their energy was much lower in contrast with Novo Amor. There was a 10-25 minute intermission between each of the three acts which felt a bit tedious. I was concerned Novo Amor's music and falsetto singing would be harder to perform live and therefore wouldn't sound as good, but I was completely wrong. The music was perfect. At no point did I feel that the audio was inferior to the audio I could hear by streaming. The more present rock element to their music was superb. I couldn't believe how tight their dynamics were, and how cinematically impressive the whole act was. The emotiveness of the vocal, the intensity of their selective harmonies, the layers of their guitar swells, even the instrumental tracks... The percussive punches came hard and clean, and the lights were synchronized beautifully. The live trombone was a welcome surprise for me. The middle of the concert was a little slower and I didn't feel it carried the same calculated dynamics as the beginning and the end of the concert. This was the weaker point, in my opinion. I enjoyed their toned-down remix of Carry You—I believe it was—with a more powerful shouting, harmonized vocoder sound over a pad and guitar swell that was really cool. They did another toned down, acoustic remix of a song that I thought was missing the grandness that it had in the studio version (I'm sorry, I don't remember the song). This was the only song of the 12-17 that I didn't enjoy as much. I would have preferred the whole team to stay on stage for this song. I wish they had played Cold and Sparks (some of my favorite songs), and also that Ed Tullet had performed some Hailaker, haha, but alas. I will definitely pay again to watch that concert. While the team was pleasant during crowd interaction, I would've also appreciated some time afterwards to get to interact with the band and thank them for the beautiful, artistic frame they have provided me and many others for personal emotional expression. If they are reading this, thank you so much! I also understand that interaction with fans you don't know or might try to objectify you can be pretty tedious or even unnerving. Perfect venue; spacious, artistic, cozy. General admission (no assigned seats) with an open space in the front, an elevated standing platform towards the back for a good view, as well as seats in the mezzannine. All this said, thank you to Novo Amor for an excellent performance. We love you and wait for you to come back!

    Great music terrible audience

    by L6 on 2022-10-05Théâtre Corona - Montreal

I’ve been to dozens upon dozens of live music events, and am no stranger to Corona Theatre. That night I was physically assaulted by a group of people from Qc suburbs while being insulted for my appearance (“c’est un autre non-binaire hostie”). When I told security (who looked a lot more like them than I) he did nothing and prioritised their comfort over mine by putting them in front of me and my friends. After that experience I will hesitate to return to this venue, and see this band.

    Novo Amor - Talented Artist

by Dee on 2022-10-05The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

I enjoyed the recent Novo Amor concert at the Danforth Music Hall. He is a very talented artist and surprised to see how many instruments he plays. I thought there was a little to much time standing around between the opening acts and the headliner. All in all a very good show and I would love to see him again.

I won't ever be the same

    by Jess on 2022-10-04

The concert arrangements for the songs were incredible and the live band was phenomenal at setting the ambiance (shoutout to the drums, bass and trombone players!) Ali himself had a great performance and I was very impressed by how solid his vocals were If you like his songs, especially from CBW (as of fall '22) it is so worth going! He also seemed to favour his more popular songs in general Only ? point is that he seems to not be a big talker, though it lets the music speak for itself and that's perfectly fine

Show was amazing. The group was amazing. It was just amazing

by Dunc on 2022-10-04The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

The group played so well together. They had a good connection with the crowd. They knew exactly what we wanted to hear, and played it, in some cases better than the recorded version. I loved every second. If you are debating on see Novo live, don’t debate it any longer. Go!

    Not what I was expecting

by Olly on 2022-09-25Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I have loved Novo Amour for years, I even walked down the isle to their song embody me. However seeing them live was very disappointing. I think the worst part was the altering of songs. Parts you look forward to were replaced with poor vocals. He also had nothing meaningful to say to the crowd. The whole time he talked about twix bars and made bad jokes. Ed Tullet wasn’t able to come and they never notified any fans of that. They waited until we were all there to say he wasn’t coming, a main member of the group… I would not recommend seeing them live. I wish I never went
