Ohio State Buckeyes Women’s Basketball History
The Ohio State Buckeyes women’s basketball team played their first season in 1965–66, finding independent success before joining the Big Ten in 1981. The team holds 15 regular season Big Ten conference titles, as well as four conference tournament championships. Under coach Nancy Darsch, the Buckeyes reached the NCAA National Championship game in 1993, falling to Texas Tech, 84-82. Ohio State has notched 26 total Women’s March Madness appearances, and in 2023, the Buckeyes advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in 30 years. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes claimed the Women’s National Invitation Tournament championship in 2001. Kevin McGuff has served as head coach since 2013.

The Buckeyes host home games in Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center (often shortened to the Schottenstein Center). Nicknamed “The Schott,” Value City Arena opened in 1998 and stands as the largest arena in the Big Ten by capacity, seating up to 19,500 for basketball.
