Ottawa Senators History
The original Ottawa Senators were founded in 1883 and were one of the founding teams of the NHL during its early years, winning 11 Stanley Cup Championships between 1903 and 1927. When the NHL started to expand to the U.S., the Senators were sold to St. Louis and became the Eagles, but the team shuttered after one year. The second incarnation of the Senators joined the NHL in 1992. The Senators have since gone on to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs 16 times.

Located in Kanata, a vibrant suburb of Ottawa, Canadian Tire Centre(Opens in new tab) is one of the region's premier entertainment venues. Since opening in 1996, the arena has served as the home of the Ottawa Senators. Capable of hosting 18,000 fans for hockey games, the arena is also regularly used for concerts and other sports events. In 2007, the arena hosted games three and four of the Stanley Cup Finals. The arena is also known for being the place where Wayne Gretzky played his final NHL game in Canada.

Must the music be so loud?

But why oh why must the music and sound be so loud? As someone who wears hearing aids the loud music and the exhortations to make more noise lead to a loud buzzing sound and a headache.

The overall atmosphere at the CTC was great - the SENS went down again but watching McDavid for the Oilers was a real treat. Despite the score the Oilers were not exactly great either - the difference was McDavid. Anderson was off his game and Karlsson, due to very sad family circumstances, did not play. The band and its lead singer for the intermission band were excellent. I think the crowd felt they got an entertaining game despite the score. I'm not an Oilers fan - but I appreciate seeing a great hockey player like McDavid. Ottawa fans have more on the ball than that blustering buffoon Don Cherry seems to think or know.

Plus close to the Lexus free booze area... to many people walking around. Food at the six pints toik for ever and very expensive. I really really really like hockey but everything surrounding our visit was not so much fun. At least the game was good.

Atmosphere was electric and unbelievable

The atmosphere, energy, and noise in the building is unlike any other games I have been to. There is no need for the Jumbotron to play the "Make some noise" clip in these games. I did miss the Chicklets though and hope to see them at a future game.
