Ottawa Senators History

The original Ottawa Senators were founded in 1883 and were one of the founding teams of the NHL during its early years, winning 11 Stanley Cup Championships between 1903 and 1927. When the NHL started to expand to the U.S., the Senators were sold to St. Louis and became the Eagles, but the team shuttered after one year. The second incarnation of the Senators joined the NHL in 1992. The Senators have since gone on to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs 16 times.

  • Not my best experience

Hard to find accessible (handicap) parking and it was extremely hot in the 300 section.

Came here as a montreal fan for the game, nice arena, great crowd with respectful fans for both teams, wonderful experience all around.

It was great! The staff was awesome.! It was my son's first Sens' game and everything was wonderful. Better experience with the staff than anywhere else I went in the NHL.

  • Good

    by Sudsy21 on 2024-04-09Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 4 out of 5

Was good experience except for the kids in front of us who wouldn't sit in their seats making it difficult to watch and see the game. There need to be ushers in each section to control this while the game is on. I get it when teams score everyone is up cheering. But during the game not acceptable, pay money to watch the game not the back of some kids blocking the view of the game while their parents also do nothing about it.

  • Excellent time!

My recent experience at the game was fantastic. From the friendly staff and Ottawa fans to the excellent play on the ice. Love attending a live game at the Canadian Tire centre.

  • Great Show

by Stephan R on 2024-03-21Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

It was an extremely long ride to get to the CT Centre from downtown Ottawa, but the show was worth it. The Sens have a talented young team and they are fun to watch. They play is a very nice arena and the ambiance was top notch. I would definitely return - hopefully in a new arena closer to downtown.

  • Good Time

by Mike on 2024-03-15Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 4 out of 5

Arena staff was amazing. Very friendly and helpful. Entertainment between action on the ice was basic, but still good. Had a great time at the game. The parking lot after the game was a nightmare. It took 45 minutes to just to get to exit the parking lot. There has to be a better way to move traffic.

  • Fun night despite accessibility shortcomings

by TerryB on 2024-03-15Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 3 out of 5

One of the two of us attending uses a wheelchair and there were a couple of areas for improvement. The first was getting into Bert's restaurant. There was a metal detector and the (standard size) wheelchair did not fit. Restaurant staff seemed very surprised, which was surprising to us. They had to move the detector back, and move some other barriers to make room for the wheelchair to move around the detector and into the building. This caused some fuss, created a longer lineup and was generally not very welcoming. The staff were great - good people in a situation that has not been fully thought through. We sat in row 2 of WC seating in section 219. It was a lot like sitting in a bunker and felt like the space was created as an afterthought. It was dark and dingy and we could not see the scoreboard and video screen because of the overhang. We've been to 3 NHL rinks with the wheelchair and Canadian Tire Centre ranks a distant third in terms of the overall experience and the feeling of fitting in seamlessly. Good product, good staff, poor performance in terms of making a person in a mobility device feel welcome and participating on the same terms as everyone else.

  • Wonderful Experience

by Peg City Rick on 2024-03-15Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

My family and I attended the Sens/Pens game on March 12. We found the staff to be extremely friendly (particularly the older gentlemen dealing with crowd control/info). It was my children’s first NHL game and I could not have asked for a better experience for them. Thank you Ottawa Senators. Go Sens Go!

  • Great on ice Experience, mediocre post-games

by Jo on 2024-03-04Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 3 out of 5

The Sens have an entertaining team and the experience at the Canadian Tire Centre is good. The problem is leaving the game is a mess. People are rushing out the door to get to their car before the end of the match because they want to get stuck for 45-60 minutes in their cars. They need to have more people out to close roads and direct traffic.

  • Sens vs Coyotes

by Hollee on 2024-03-04Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 3 out of 5

The value for money spent was very poor during this visit. The price of concessions is extreme even when comparing to historically expensive locations like airports or hotels. When the cost of a pretzel is over $7 one would at least expect it to be warm. Mine was cold and soggy. When the concession staff was asked about it I received a shrug of the shoulders. For a city that is getting more and more sporting options competing for dollars this may be a poor strategy. Women’s hockey has my interest, I’ve always like lacrosse and the 67’s have a consistent product far more affordable and in a better location

  • Grand Ole-time

by Flip on 2024-03-04Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 4 out of 5

Country Music theme at hockey game; not a country-music guy but was a great atmosphere. Wonderful concert by Tim Hicks. Good effort by the home team for 40% of the game Hate the new parking payment model. Missed 1/2 of the 2nd period trying to find a kiosk to pay.

  • Amazing show and experience

by KRIG on 2024-03-04Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

Tim Hicks was amazing! One of my favourite canadian artists and country singers period for that matter. Sens game was great too our 6th this year! Go Sens!

  • expensive

by K Suzanne on 2024-03-04Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 3 out of 5

Going to the Sens game is a pricy event, if you like to have a few drinks and possibly food. A glass of wine was $24 with tip, beer was $17. We were lucky to get free valet parking *normally $80 I got a single ticket because I was last minute going with my friends which was only $39. We ended up just hanging out at Berts Bar for most of it, which is fun. Basically we paid a $40 cover to get into Bert's Bar. (cost of the ticket)

  • Was an excellent game!

First time to Ottawa. Beautiful sunny weather. Had a great time at the game. Seen a concert the night before Nathaniel Rateliff stole the show. And we were lucky enough to skate on the Rideau Canal.
