PERIPHERY IN CONCERT:

Periphery has been at the epicenter of the progressive metal scene ever since first getting audiences thrashing back in 2005. The band's face-melting shows are a crash course in the unique metal subgenre known as djent, treating concertgoers to extensive breakdowns, complex rhythms, and plenty of seven string guitar. From the breakneck tempo and unexpected melodies of "Passenger" to the epic sonic onslaught of "Icarus Lives", Periphery is a heavy-hitting and unforgettable live act that always get pulses racing on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Periphery formed in Washington, D.C. in 2005 and quickly built a following with their pioneering djent metal sound. The band spent its early years on the road touring tirelessly with acts like Veil of Maya, Darkest Hour, and The Dillinger Escape Plan. In 2010 they recruited lead vocalist Spencer Sotelo and released their self-titled debut album, an auspicious collection that peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and No. 12 on the Hard Rock chart. Following tours with Dream Theater and Protest The Hero, the band released their 2012 sophomore album Periphery II: This Time It's Personal -- a No. 3 hit on the Hard Rock chart that once again brought them out on tour. A powerful live act known for their high-octane live shows, Periphery continues to blow minds in concert.

Periphery was an amazing experience. Sounded just like the album. Only things that could have been better was the mix was slightly boomy and the snare drowned out the guitars at times. Could have done with less bass, less drums, more guitar and more vocals. Also Periphery played for 1 hr exactly and I felt it was a short set. Also, ticketmaster fees are ridiculous.

I showed up very late since I didn't realize doors were so early (6pm). Otherwise whatever I saw at the show was amazing. My one issue with the show is that the mix seemed inconsistent from song to song. E.g. The Way The News Goes sounded perfectly mixed but in Psychosphere I could barely hear the vocals and bass at all
