About

PETER MURPHY IN CONCERT:

Post-punk legend and godfather of goth Peter Murphy has been an emblem of dark romance ever since his debut with Bauhaus in 1978. As frontman of the legendary group Murphy made a name for himself with his spooky baritone voice and macabre theatrics, and he remains a spellbinding performer more than three decades later. Whether he's mesmerizing with Bauhaus classics like "God in an Alcove" and "Bela Lugosi's Dead" or treating fans to favorites from his solo career, Murphy never fails to bring chills on his unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Peter Murphy got his start as a singer with Northampton, UK-based post-punk outfit Bauhaus, which he was asked to join in 1978 because the band liked his look. The group made their debut in 1979 with the single "Bela Lugosi's Dead", a nine-minute slice of dirge rock that stayed on the British independent charts for two years and served as the launching point for the goth rock movement. After a successful run that landed them four LPs on the UK Albums Chart, Bauhaus called it quits in 1983, allowing Murphy to pursue a variety of other projects. His biggest post-Bauhaus success came as a solo artist with '90s hits like "Cuts You Up" and "A Strange Kind of Love". In 20142 Murphy released his ninth studio album Lion to rave reviews, and he continues to treat fans to career-spanning sets on his legendary tours.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Murphy has not lost it one bit, his voice and stage presence is amazing as always and the decades of fans there enjoyed every minute."

"Another great show! Peter only gets better with age, played one of my favorite song from his solo career "A Strange Kind of Love".

"This was a great night for Bauhaus fans! So much music. He played for a very long time and looked and sounded great. I saw the last Bauhaus reunion show. . .this was just as good!"

    SWR exceeded high expectations

by Grimwald on 2011-12-04Venue - Vancouver

She Wants Revenge were fantastic and are the main reason for my 5 star rating. After seeing both Peter Murphy and SWR I would have prefered to see Peter Murphy first and finish with SWR. I was not that impressed with the sightlines at the Venue as the top ring seems to be designed for bands to play in the centre which is not the way most shows are staged. I was impressed with the number of bars and the people at the Venue seemed friendly overall.

    Venue sucks

by Anonymous on 2011-12-04Venue - Vancouver

Peter Murphy still rocks! Unfortunetly the Venue cut the show short and cheated us out of 4 or 5 extra songs. One of the songs we missed was Cut You Up, which I believe is one of his best. I know that there was a lot of fans at the show to see She Wants Revenge, in my opinion an average band. The singing in She Wants Revenge does not even come close to what Peter Murphy is capable of.Their set should have been shorter, If anyone was aware that their was a time line. I gave the show 3 stars only because of the very low cost of the tickets. If I had paid $100 per ticket I would have felt that I was really Robbed and would have been really pissed. BTW where the heck were the concert T-shirts I am a huge Peter Murphy fan I was hoping to get myself some memorablea.

The Old and the New, the borrowed & the Blues

A rich artist who's depth of prose should be witnessed first hand, this is what you can expect from Peter Murphy.

    Peter Murphy was Amazing!

by Gothchic on 2011-11-29Lee's Palace - Toronto

I've seen Peter Murphy 4 times and this time he did an amazing job. There were not any covers except Ziggy Stardust and he played a bunch of his hits. His voice was great and he really worked it! There have been some times when I saw him live previously and didn't think he was so great, but I can't say that this time. Peter really has stage presence!

    Awesome performance

by Farqcrows on 2010-08-16Lee's Palace - Toronto

What can I say - Peter Murphy was at his absolute theatrical, energetic, entrancing best. At such a small venue, it was possible to feel completely in his presence - catch every look, movement and feeling. His voice, as always, is mesmerizing and beautiful. I took someone who has never seen Peter Murphy before and he was impressed. Great backing musicians, cool covers - a great night. And he handled the technical difficulties with class and grace - as one would expect from the man.

    Murphy delivers despite tech problems

by Pope on 2010-08-11Lee's Palace - Toronto

Peter Murphy and his new band delivered a great mix of old & new solo material, as well as some of the better Bauhaus songs (Dark Entries, Stigmata Martyr, Silent Hedges). Some technical difficulties with his microphone, especially near the end, marred an otherwise great show.

    Great show

by PeterMurphyRocks on 2010-08-11Lee's Palace - Toronto

The opening act Ariel was not bad. If you closed your eyes, you can almost imagine The Cure on stage. Again, not bad but not the most original music. Peter Murphy was great. It was my first time seeing him live and didn't disappoint. I would've like to hear more Bauhaus songs but then again, it was his solo show. He seemed to encounter sound problems with his monitor which was a bit distracting.
