    Portishead was Epic

by PFrench on 2011-11-26Sound Academy - Toronto

This event was not simply a concert, but in fact it was the live re-creation of artistic pieces. It was a privilege to see the individual instrumentation in each of the songs and how they brought the song and the audience to life. Portishead had not played in Canada for over 12 years but this was my first time seeing them after loving and following their music for over a decade, and it was surreal to see Beth, Geoff and Adrian....as well as have eye to eye interaction with them. "Machine Gun" felt like shots going through my chest with the drum beats. They were quite meticulous with their sound and video set-up. Behind the band, was a projection of images with live overlays of the group. Overall, this was an epic night and Portishead remain legendary.

    Mesmerizing

    by Drumhead001 on 2011-10-30PNE Forum - Vancouver

The PNE Forum is really getting old, and even though it is showing it's age it seemed in the end perfectly suited for this concert. Absolutely wonderful sound quality (for which I suspect we must thank Portishead's sound engineer and not necessarily the venue), great atmosphere, great response from the audience. Only complaint... it felt too short (1:40).

    Amazing

by SkyWolfe on 2011-10-29PNE Forum - Vancouver

They played every song to the note. All the sounds everything were perfect. Also, Beths voice was perfect, it never waivered or missed a note. I would go again in a heart beat.

    Portishead rocked the house!

by TiggleBitties on 2011-10-29PNE Forum - Vancouver

The show was fantastic. The band seems to have lost nothing over the years. The vocals were superb. The downside was having to stand. There were no shortage of unfortunates in the crowd. Many people seemed to think it was a good idea to record the show with their phones. There were several bright LCD's blocking my view at various points, usually during the most popular songs. The beer garden was terrible. Bud, Bud Light, Bud light with lime... gross.

Portishead at the Forum in Vancouver was one of the greatest shows i have ever seen. the haunting stripped down version of wandering star was worth the price of admission alone...

    Once in a lifetime experience

by someguythatwasthere on 2011-10-26PNE Forum - Vancouver

I had no idea what to expect coming in to this. I wondered how their music would translate into a live venue given its dark, somber nature. I was blown away. It was the most intimate, memorable concert experience I've ever had. I've attended a number of concerts this year and if I had to pick one to experience a second time, this would be it, hands down. There were several intense moments throughout the show where I felt tears welling up. The visuals were amazing. The sound was great. Beth's singing blew me away. Venue sucked, I don't like the forum, but I would brave it again and again for Portishead :) Someone needs to shove a sock in the mouths of those useless guards. They were standing around yelling and laughing with each other about going for drinks after the show, during the most inopportune moments!!! Nothing worse than being pulled out of an intense experience, severing your connection with the performers on stage, to hear some dude guffawing about getting smashed. Everyone within a 10 meter radius was yelling, shushing, and seconds away from lynching them. Seriously, tell the guards there to SHUT THEIR YAPPERS during a show like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by musiccore on 2011-10-26PNE Forum - Vancouver

It was wonderful. The sound was good. the band was amazing. Her voice to die for. Only thing i wished for was that the lighting would have been a littel higher. Difficult to see the musicians.
