  • Fantastic

I have seen rent a few times, and this time was just as great. Took my 12 year old daughter who saw it for the first time, and she was so excited during the music singing away. Great Show, Great Team!!!

  • Excellent!

This was an extraordinary experience for me. The performances were absolutely perfect, and the songs and lyrics, and the theme of the show were pretty profound.

I was so happy when RENT announced an anniversary tour because I've always wanted to see it live. It definitely lived up to over 10 years of waiting. I had goosebumps throughout the entire show, it was absolutely incredible. I have to say that the woman that played Mimi was on fire!

  • A fun night out

by Jac on 2019-10-28National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaRating: 3 out of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed the performance. It was long but it didn’t feel long because it was so entertaining. The only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of five was because I have seen other shows that I like better like Kinky Boots or School of Rock.

I loved the show. The music was Awesome, the characters were easily identifiable and the story was easy to follow. The artists can really sing!!! I'm a sappy person, and I cried through most of the second act, glad I brought a fresh pack of tissues!!! Had a wonderful evening!!!

  • Still a classic, but no wow-factor

    by R on 2019-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Rent was one of the very first musicals I've experienced. I remember great things about it, the cast, the music, the talent! So naturally, when I saw they were touring, for their 20th anniversary no less, I was excited. At the close of the performance, I was left feeling a little disappointed. The Production itself gave little wow-factor with no moving stage props. It seemed like one scene throughout the entire performance, with very little differentiation between indoor/outdoor scenes. Although there were a few standouts, the overall casting wasn't very impressive in my opinion. I remember the first time I watched Rent, I was blown away by Angel. This time, I felt some characters, especially Angel, Mimi, and Roger fell flat from what could have been, and should have been, stellar performances. Maybe I just had unrealistic expectations that their 20th anniversary should have been a special event both for the production and the audience.

  • Mobile Audience at Rent

by Out of towner on 2019-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

I had not been to an event at the Queen E Theatre for several years and was really looking forward to attending a live performance. My enjoyment of the performance was marred by the constant stream of people in the audience that went in and out of the theatre in front of me. It used to be that if someone left the theatre, they weren’t allowed back in until an intermission. Other people have told me that this is now the norm during live performances. I feel it is disrespectful to the performers and very distracting for the audience.

  • Rent

by Angela on 2019-09-25Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

Rent was ok. I found the voices of the singers muffled and could not understand them most of the time. I found them screaming most of time. Second half better than first half. ,

  • A COLLABORATIVE ENSEMBLE

by ARDENT ASIAN ADMIRER on 2019-09-25Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

It's been a long time since I've seen the film and I've never seen the musical on Broadway so this was a first for me. The QE Theatre's seating is always a bit cramped and seriously needs a re-vamp so I know that in order to really enjoy the production, I would have to pay for cramped orchestra seats closer to the front. I want to see EVERYTHING....the sets, the costumes and the expressions on the actors' faces. And boy....they did not disappoint! Set was gritty and "cold" giving that overall feeling of scarcity, minimalism, hardship. Each character was exceptional! It was great to see that each character was showcased and given a chance to shine. Kudos to the screenplay / director on this. Excellent vocals throughout from all cast. Pacing was fast but cast made them memorable in their own way....quick and concise development of character. Loved the humour (Tango Maureen and Maureen's song) and the joy every time Angel came on stage (jumping around in those heels!) and the pathos of Tom B Collins (great voice!) Bravo to all!

  • Terrible sound

by LMM on 2019-09-25Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

this was our second time seeing RENT. First experience brought tears to my eye 20 yrs ago and this time the experience was flat. The sound at the Queen Elizabeth Theater was unbelievably disappointing. We could barely make out lyrics/words. Very poor production.

  • For upcoming stars, they did well

    by otter123 on 2019-09-25Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

This was one of my favorite musicals and it was my third time seeing it. First, I must say it is a very difficult musical to perform because of the pace. The reason I gave it a 3 stars was because most of them lacked emotion and vocal strength, and didn't sing well at times when singing all together. That being said, I found all of them very talented and with more experience, they will be as good as the originals.

  • Disappointed with QE Theatre

by Dizzymisslizzy on 2019-09-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Once again I have to say that the Queen E did not deliver in terms of sound . Granted, our seats were quite far back on the balcony , but all the sound was coming from the front of the theatre . No sound upstairs . In a show that requires one to understand the story by hearing the lyrics, a lot was lost on us . Recently we had seen Hamilton in Chicago and although the lyrics are fast a furious rap - we caught it all due to the outstanding sound system at the theatre . I loved the music in Rent, but I will not go to another musical at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre!

Not appropriate for kids or my elderly parents. We left at half time. Great voices though
