Rent was one of the very first musicals I've experienced. I remember great things about it, the cast, the music, the talent! So naturally, when I saw they were touring, for their 20th anniversary no less, I was excited. At the close of the performance, I was left feeling a little disappointed. The Production itself gave little wow-factor with no moving stage props. It seemed like one scene throughout the entire performance, with very little differentiation between indoor/outdoor scenes. Although there were a few standouts, the overall casting wasn't very impressive in my opinion. I remember the first time I watched Rent, I was blown away by Angel. This time, I felt some characters, especially Angel, Mimi, and Roger fell flat from what could have been, and should have been, stellar performances. Maybe I just had unrealistic expectations that their 20th anniversary should have been a special event both for the production and the audience.
