    Such a great show!

by GJ on 2019-09-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Always loved the movie RENT, so was excited to see the musical live performance. It was even better than what I was expecting. The voices were superb, and blended together magically. Putting it all together on a stage and still getting to understand story lines was done perfectly. Laughed and cried. I'd see it again for sure!

    Acoustics

    by P. B. on 2019-09-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

It seemed like the vocal acoustics had some issues, it was barely audible in the first act - could not understand a word especially in chorus. Second act improved a little but probably because there were more solos versus chorus / dialogue. It wasn’t a great experience at all. If not for the program with the synopsis, or my familiarity with the plot, we wouldn’t have gotten the full story.

    RENT Again, 20 years later

by MMICHIELA on 2019-09-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Saw the original Vancouver tour at The Vogue Theatre (I think). It seemed so groundbreaking and relevant then. I enjoyed the show at the Q E this time, still the same raw energy and talent, a few great songs, but found it was a little dated. That said, I'll go again in 20 years for the 40th.

    Sound was terrible

by TheRodFather on 2019-09-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I've been to Queen Elizabeth theatre many times; that said, this time the setup of the sound wasn't good. The actors' voices were muffled, many times the lyrics was impossible to understand, and the band struggled to not overplay the actors voices.

    Wow

by Melanie on 2019-09-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The talent that were chosen to bring back this production were second to none. Rent was the first show I ever saw, 20 years ago. This time around was just as fantastic and with probably more tears. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

rent was not what i expected

by cher on 2019-09-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The sound system was not working properly. I could not understand any of the vocals and this show is 95% sung. I mentioned this problem to front of house at the intermission. They stated that they knew the sound was not working properly. So without being able to understand the story there was little enjoyment.

    It was ok

by T on 2019-09-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

It was just ok. Cast felt very young and inexperienced; singing wasn't always bang on and it was very difficult to understand what they were saying during some of the songs. The stage was a bit limited and disappointing. The scene with Angel dying of AIDS with the white sheet was very powerful.

    Difficult to hear

by Elle on 2019-09-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

It was difficult to hear the lyrics, perhaps that band was too loud. There were 7 of us and we all agreed on that point and were sitting in 2 different sections. I missed parts of the story line, luckily, on of my friends has see the show before and filled me in, Otherwise, amazing!

    Second Experience

by KJ on 2019-09-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The first time I saw this musical was on Broadway in 1998 and I had great seats and got to meet the cast so I was trying not to compare. My seats this time were at the very back. I brought a friend who was new to musicals. The volume was too loud so the words were difficult to hear and my friend couldn’t follow the plot, so was confused. The energy was amazing and the performance aspect was great, even due to the limits of a smaller touring set.

Awesome revisiting of a beloved musical

by bean on 2019-09-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Brought two of my besties to my fave musical, who had never seen it before. It was awesome to have the convenience of having tickets in my Phone. Now Being a Rent-head since 1998, I knew every word, so I tried not to sing along too loud. But I was blown away by the casts’ youthful energy and clear devotion to the content. It was also a treat to see some of the cast on sky train after where I could gush about their performances.

    Truly an amazing experience

by Icyicicle on 2019-09-19Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The entire show was beautifully arranged. Only thing is that when sitting on the second balcony it gets a little hard to differentiate what is going on - just with the scene being so busy with people and decorations, but even then it gets all cleared up and you catch on. The actors voices were amazing; sent shivers down my back. I found it an honestly unforgettable experience. It was overall everything that I wanted and more than I could imagine. You can definitely see the amount of work, time and effort that is put into the show by each and every person. 10/10 would recommend.

    RENT - from "novel eyes"

by Novice on 2019-09-18Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

We went to this Broadway without knowing the plot or background. Act 1 was hard to follow, Act 2 made it better. Now that we have watched it once, we wouldn't watch it again. Interesting and heartbreaking. Good themes. Cheesy at the end, but maybe the movie was better? I am assuming there is a book and movie....(thats how new to theatre we are, we don't research them before we go) Definitely a must to watch since its a classic. But it just was not our style.

    Rent

by PR on 2019-09-18Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I loved the play, the acting and singing were fantastic. The only issue was sometimes it was hard to hear some of the dialogue and lyrics of the songs. It was easy enough to catch the drift of what was happening but it would have been perfect if the sound had been better.

    Great Content, Iffy Production

by pickletory on 2019-09-17Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

My first time seeing RENT. I quite enjoyed the plot and themes of the play. I had quite a lot of trouble hearing though. Not for lack of volume. I am not sure if it was the quality of the microphones, the diction & elocution of the performers, or the competition between the vocals and the electric guitar. In case, it diminished my enjoyment.

    Was a great show!

by dmjk00 on 2019-09-13Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

We really enjoyed our night. The only thing we noticed was that "Roger", who was supposed to be a "star singer" was a bit weak. It did not spoil the show though. Everyone did a great job! It was also odd you could not get a playbill. That is something we collect.

    So disappointing!

by Nana on 2019-09-12Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

This cast was marvellous ! Unfortunately the sound was so distorted that we were totally left in the dark as to the storyline. When sing speak is used, we MUST be able to understand. Obviously there was work on the sound system in the intermission but the story line had been lost. We were left frustrated and disappointed that $400.00 had been spent on a Birthday gift and we felt cheated. This was the last night of the performance so bugs should have been worked out.
