About

Rihanna is nothing if not prolific. Since her 2005 debut, the 25-year-old singer has released seven albums and racked up twelve No. 1 singles, setting a record in the process as the solo artist with the fastest accumulation of ten chart-topping singles – a feat she accomplished in just under five years. A quick scroll through the radio dial will confirm that Rihanna is the most ubiquitous figure in Top 40 airplay, and considering her rapid-fire release schedule, it’s hardly a surprise that she recently edged out her idol Whitney Houston to become the artist with the ninth most Top 10 singles ever (24 in total). After hugely successful collaborations with Eminem in 2010 (“Love the Way You Lie”) and Drake in 2012 (Take Care), Rihanna scored her first U.S. No. 1 album with 2012’s Unapologetic, which includes the hugely successful “Diamonds” and “Stay.” Rihanna is shining bright in concert on the 2013 Diamonds World Tour -- opening acts 2 Chainz and A$AP Rocky are worth the ticket price alone.

Born in Barbados in 1988, Rihanna grew up listening to reggae and began singing at age seven. As a teen, her Caribbean-influenced demos attracted the attention of label execs, and in 2005 she auditioned for Jay-Z, signing a six-album record deal with Def Jam Recordings the same day. Her first two albums, Mother of the Sun (2005) and A Girl Like Me (2006), spawned hit singles “Pon De Replay” and chart-topper “S.O.S.,” but it wasn’t until “Umbrella,” from third album Good Girl Gone Bad (2007), that she cemented her place as a serious contender to the pop throne. Originally written for Britney Spears, “Umbrella” peaked at No. 1 and earned Rihanna her first Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. A string of platinum-selling albums would follow, including Loud (2010) and Talk That Talk (2011), both of which featured an increasingly dance-oriented sound, including chart-topping club anthems “Only Girl (In the World)” and “We Found Love.” After terminating her tumultuous on-again, off-again relationship with rapper Chris Brown, Rihanna released Unapologetic in 2013 to positive reviews – and a No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.

    Good girl gone bad?

by StillEnchanted on 2013-04-04Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Late, noisy, disorganized, unprofessional. Very poor selection of songs. Looked like a bad rehersal. I attended one of her concerts two or three years ago and it was the best ever. I love her and her music, but definitively that was not her night...

Save your money for someone who appreciates it

by rykang on 2013-04-04Scotia Saddledome - Calgary

Opening act A$AP was horrible, never heard of him and wish I hadn't wasted that hour of my life watching him. Rihanna finally came on stage almost 2 hours late. People were fed up and had walked out already. This is my third time seeing her in concert and she was horrible this time, lip synched badly, her gold microphone wasn't near her mouth most of the time. Most of her outfits were nice, she is a beautiful girl. She can dance when she takes the effort to do so, she looked tired and bored at the show. Get off the drugs Rihanna and appreciate your fans before they all get fed up and stop coming to your shows. I will not pay to see her a fourth time.

    Rihanna Rocked Vancouver!!

by JamesonDrinker on 2013-04-04Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Awesome show!! Love Rihanna's new Reggae-inspired style songs with her own special Bahamian sound. Goes without saying, still absolutely love her old stuff, too. Acoustics were a bit off right at the beginning of Rihanna's performance (music much louder than vocals), however this was quickly rectified. Too many wardrobe changes took away from the flow of her performance.

    What a night

    by Charmed1 on 2013-04-04Rogers Arena - Vancouver

First, I Love Rihanna and i believe she is an Amazing talent. I attended the show and treated four (4) members of my family to the show and i felt like it was a waste of hundreds of dollars on tickets, parking, merchandise. Rihanna didn't come out on stage until after 10:00pm and her show was slotted to start at 7:30pm. so sitting around waiting for a diva to come out; i was not impressed. I didn't know or understand her opening act but at least he was trying to entertain us. Upon her arrival on stage she started high energy and got the crowed cheering for more, but no apology to the people of Vancouver for being so LATE and that bothered me! I didn't bother taking photo's at the show because i was pissed off. When Rihanna Preformed i would give it an ok but i would NEVER Recommend to a friend or family member to Waste money on her tickets but i would say Buy the Music Videos or CD its cheaper and you can still enjoy her talent. Regretably at this time and how i am feeling i wont book tickets for her show again. Again, i do believe she is a very talented young lady and i wish her all the best.

    Totally underwhelmed

by SammyO on 2013-04-03Rogers Arena - Vancouver

An hour late, 3 songs with nothing but music and barely used her dancers, stage was lack luster and almost $400 for 2 tickets made us feel totally robbed. Love her, but this was one of the worst concerts I've ever been to.

    Awful

    by ace26 on 2013-04-03Rogers Arena - Vancouver

This was probably one of the worst concerts I've been to in my life. I'm a casual fan - I've listened to her numerous number one songs on the radio and I've enjoyed them. The opening act was horrendous - swearing constantly, and the sound quality was horrible. I specifically chose seats directly across from the stage because that's usually where the best sound quality is - but it sounded garbled and mucky, not to mention unbearably loud. I thought it was just the opening act that would have the bad quality sound, so we hung out in the hallway until just before he finished. When he was finally done we headed back inside - only to have to wait another hour for Rihanna to appear. Considering the opening act was 45 minutes late it was 10 pm when she took the stage. And the sound - just as bad quality and terribly, horribly loud as with the opening act! It was practically unbearable! And Rihanna, I'll give her props for her dancing - she carries such an air of nonchalance that it's almost mesmerizing how she manages to be in time with her backup dancers yet look like she isn't purposely doing the moves. And when she sang - it was great! I've seen videos of her singing live before and I definitely think she's improved. However - big however - she only sang about 10% of the time!!! She had backing vocals of her voice that were so loud that when she dropped her mic away from her face - which was often - it sounded like she was still singing!!! I feel like I need to be refunded 90% of my ticket price!!! Anyway, the loudness and lateness became so unbearable that we ended up leaving after an hour - and I felt relieved. Definitely not worth the price of admission.

Overall, I found her concert to be very disappointing. For an A-list star, Rihanna put on a terrble performance. She barely performed, unless you want to call lipsyncing a talent. I would never pay to see her again

Was good but I much prefer the last time she was here. She didn't come on till almost 10 pm and for quite a few of the songs she didn't sing the whole song, was almost liked medleys. Overall I still love her music and would see her again.

it felt more like the rhinestone world tour?

by LannerZ on 2013-04-03Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Was Rihanna shining bright like a diamond on Monday in Vancouver? No, it felt more like a CZ/rhinestone world tour. I could rant in detail about the unimpressive opening act ASAP, lateness & lackluster performance but Im sure the other reviewers will have covered that. Really disappointing show.

    Lacked luster

by Lesliequinn on 2013-04-03Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Rihanna lacked energy. I have been to many concerts and although she is beautiful and has a good voice, she seemed sad and disconnected with the audience. Didn't play all her hits, played a lot of songs that are not very popular. Had music playing while singing so it was hard to know what was live and what was recorded. Stage set up was ok and there was a bit of pyro. Overall, I wouldn't go see again, her encore presentation of stay and diamonds was the best part of show. She was also hours late, she showed up at 10:10pm and sang until 11:30. Was not worth the money. I'm sad that she disappointed.

    ri ri missing apology

    by MelI444 on 2013-04-03Rogers Arena - Vancouver

We waited 1 hour for concert to begin. Then after listening to 1 hour of opening act by some rappers rapping their mouth away we waited another hour of freaking intermission. Rihanna is a good performer and I enjoyed the show. But honey an apology would have helped to show you care for your fans..

    not impressed

    by zaz2013 on 2013-04-03Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Seen Rihanna last time she was here and it was awesome, was quite disappointed this time. She was late coming on stage, didn't get on until 10. Then she definitely lip synched some of the songs. Was just okay!

    Good Performance, Bad Attitude

    by Becky545 on 2013-04-03Rogers Arena - Vancouver

I enjoyed myself at the Rihanna concert when she finally got on stage and sang. Her opening act was 45 minutes starting and then there was about another 45 minutes in between the two acts. The concert was over at 11:30, which is fairly late. The woman in front of me brought her young kids and they were both asleep in the chairs by the end of it. For the amount we paid for the tickets it would have been nice to be awake for the whole thing. When she finally came on stage she sang many songs and did lots of outfit changes. She was very interactive with the audience and seemed appreciative of the turn out. The only downer is that she never apologized for the delay or gave any indication as to why it took so long. Reports have told that's she's shown up late for many of her shows on this leg of her tour. Overall I had a fun time. I just didn't appreciate the huge delay and late finish.

    RihRih's done better

by Yupyupyuuup on 2013-04-03Rogers Arena - Vancouver

I alway enjoy see Rihanna!! Been to everyone of her concerts in Vancouver! But her opening act was late to perform and so was she! And she barely sang! I think I sang more than her! No place to smoke at the venue, which made it worse! Rogers arena needs a smoking area, that would probably eliminate people smoking in the venue.......anyway love Rihanna will definitely see her next time she's in vancouver!

Poor Performance - acting like a Diva

by IrishGurl on 2013-04-03Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Her support act was terrible, to think David Guetta is supporting her in Europe and we got a got who shouted about weed, B&*ches and P&*sy! He came on 45 minutes late. Maybe this was to put off the delay for Rihanna.. She came on way too late, playing on a Monday night and arriving on stage after 1 hour and a half late is terrible. When she did come on not one apology for the delay. She lip singed the entire way through the show, not evening trying to cover it up. You could clearly see her pull the mic away from her face, put it down by her side and the lyrics kept on coming! This happened the entire way through the concert! I think she enjoyed a bit too much of the BC bud...She was completely acting like a diva, when she clearly does not have that type of rep (certainly not in my eyes)! I saw her in Dublin a few years ago and I loved every second of it, but after Monday nights performance I will think twice about purchasing tickets to see her again.
