On Paper this had such potential

I've been a pretty die hard Lauryn Hill fan for the past decade, her album Miseducation has grown on me even more in the last few years, so I was really excited for this, but what a disappointment overall. Nas did his thing, he's a legend, and Illmatic is a classic, but it would have been great to hear some more of his hits from the late 90's as an encore, he only did one or two hits after his album, but he brought DJ Premier, Pete Rock, and AZ along, so that was a good showing. Lauryn came on and hour and 40 minutes after Nas left with no warm up acts in between which was horrible on the organizers part. The Rock the Bells poster lists a ton of legends, and some amazing up and coming acts and none of them made the trip north of the border which was disappointing. But Lauryn is such a diva. She changed the entire instrumental to the album, using a live band instead of a DJ. Not a single song was similar to the album versions, she really doesn't rap anymore, and her execution is really weak. I'd say two or three of her hits she didn't completely butcher and they came off alright, but in my opinion she's destroying classic material. She brought Nas back for If I Rule the World, but I'd never pay to see Lauryn ever again, and she's in my top 5 artist list. This turned out to be more of a bucket list experience, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. For future Rock the Bells events don't bother showing up when the doors open, wait until 9pm or so when the first headline act comes on because there aren't any opening acts.
