Killer Mike (real name Michael Render) has grown from a niche southern hip-hop artist to one of the genre’s most respected voices in his nearly three-decade career. He quickly established himself in 2003 after winning a Grammy on the first single he was featured on: “The Whole World” with Outkast, fellow members of Atlanta’s Dungeon Family collective. Killer Mike released his debut solo album, Monster, less than a month afterwards. He self-released the Pledge trilogy of albums between 2006 and 2011, and in the meantime contributed notable guest verses on songs from Jay-Z, Gucci Mane and T.I. After connecting with Philadelphia rapper-producer El-P for 2012’s R.A.P. Music, the pair formed Run the Jewels in 2013, unleashing four full-length albums through 2020’s RTJ4. Killer Mike has also appeared in films like ATL, Idlewild, and Baby Driver, and in 2019, he wrote, produced and hosted the Netflix documentary series Trigger Warning with Killer Mike. In 2023, Killer Mike released Michael, his sixth solo album and first solo effort in 11 years.
