    Love Ron Sexsmith

by Finallythere on 2015-09-27RIO Theatre on BROADWAY - Vancouver

The show was great, I wish Ron Sexsmith would play Vancouver more often. The venue was good choice as there isn't a bad seat in the house.

    Very enjoyable!

by AuthorityOnChicago on 2015-09-26Rio Theatre - Vancouver

Ron Sexsmith delivered a nicely paced show that combined songs from his new album Carousel One with fan favourites like "Secret Heart," "Brandy Alexander," "Strawberry Blonde" and "Gold in Them Hills." I liked the mix of arrangements, with the full five-piece band playing on some songs and Sexsmith playing alone or with only one other musician on others. Sexsmith connected well with the audience between songs, telling us some amusing anecdotes.

    Ron Sexsmith Vancouver

by J50Jeff on 2015-09-26RIO Theatre on BROADWAY - Vancouver

My wife and I are fans of Ron Sexsmith, and he did not disappoint :) In our opinion, Ron should have a much larger following as he is very talented and personable. He is also quite Canadian in that he is humble.

I have been a fan of his music for many years and it was a treat to again attend a concert. NAC showcased Ron's music. Can't wait until the next concert at NAC. We are fortunate to have such a Canadian talent!

We always enjoy an evening with Ron Sexsmith and having it at the NAC is wonderful! Ron is so easy to listen to and so very humble. He has a great connection with the audience and is incredibly talented both as a song writer and a musician.

Ron continues to awe his fans with inspiring songs that come with the wonderful spirit of his vision and heart. Shy in nature and gallant towards his listeners - these are ingredients of his music and character that keep us coming back for more. Ron is to be commended for choosing to bring Alexandra Robiero (sp) as a special guest to the stage - can that girl ever command a stage! Lovely.

Ron Sexsmith/Jenn Grant - Love Shines @ The Studio

by RonheadIan on 2013-10-22National Arts Centre Studio - Ottawa

I was lucky enough to take in both brilliantly stunning shows this weekend by Canadian singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith (with opener Jenn Grant). The NAC Studio is about as wonderful a venue as you could see any artist. Ron and the band were in excellent form and played 2+ hours (each night) covering all the usual classics (Strawberry Blonde, Secret Heart, Gold in Them Hills), many other songs from his now very extensive (13 album) back catalogue, plus several songs off his latest release, Forever Endeavour (if you haven't got that CD yet, you are really missing something special). Ron is such an incredible singer-songwriter and his band so tight that I don't think he has ever put on anything short of a great performance, and this weekend was no exception. Ron moved effortlessly from singing and playing with the full band, to doing solo acoustic numbers on guitar as well as on a Steinway Grand piano (Secret Heart, Autumn Light). Ron (being Ron), also took requests shouted out from the audience, and added to his set list Snow Angel as well as Riverbed. During the show drummer Don Kerr moved up to play guitar with Ron on Listen (from the Destination Unknown album), as well as doing a cover of the Louvin Brothers You're Learning. The wonderful Jenn Grant also came out at one point to accompany Ron on Brandy Alexander. Ron also sang a new song about a Saint Bernard dog that had some very funny lines, generating smiles and laughs from the audience. These two shows were about as great a musical experience as I have had. Ron is an "unsung" hero in my books and will go down as one of the greatest singer songwriters this country has ever produced. He should be selling out Southam Hall on a regular basis, but I was more than happy to see him at the much small and intimate setting of The Studio. Thanks N.A.C. and CBC for keeping Canadian music alive!!

Ron Sexsmith, Superb Artist provides a great show

by Skater24 on 2013-10-06The Gateway (SAIT) - Calgary

Ron Sexsmith is a national gem. To be able to see him in such an intimate setting and he brings his full band. He is a songwriter with few peers. The band was able to rock it out a bit, playing a good mix of songs from throughout his career. We loved the show and the Gateway at SAIT was a good setting.

Ron Sexsmith is great live. He played a good mix of songs, new and old favorites, and performed solo as well as with his band. He has a great self-deprecating humour. Highly recommend.

    No magic................

by WhiskeyAngel13 on 2012-06-12Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

I have seen Ron Sexsmith two times before in concert, Lee's Palace and Hugh's Room in Toronto. The Queen Elizabeth Theatre show illustrates that he is on the road to getting his due recognition. Hopefully............ The 90 plus minute set had some flaws but it did not deter Sexsmith from giving 110% effort. The show was the last of a tour and contained a casual vibe but the audience behaved as if they were in someone's rec room. I mean a constant flow of patrons to the bar and lounge facilities clearly detracted from the evening reaching any sense of a magic moment. Sexsmith played many songs off his latest CD plus numerous gems from his impressive body of work. Will this average gig detract me from seeing Sexsmith or buying his music. No. But I will really think about the venue.

    Ron shines at Studio Theatre

by Rylander on 2011-04-25The Studio at Hamilton Place - Hamilton

I have seen Ron Sexsmith many times, three times at Hamilton Place's Studio Theatre! But with this newly fleshed out band and a fiery new CD to support I don't think I've seen him any better. He warned us at the beginning that he was losing his voice, and was on steroids for it, but he would try to hit as many notes as he could. There was no real sense of him marking his vocals. once or twice he took the easy route, but for the most part he gave it his all. Bovaconti seemed particularly good, playing guitar parts established on record by Rusty Anderson, and the addition of Dave Mathewson on piano was a welcome one. The sold out crowd loved Ron, and the fact that the Pixies were playing next door meant nothing to us...we were in the presence of a songwriting genius!

    Ron Sexsmith rules!

by ChrisP on 2011-04-23Lee's Palace - Toronto

Saw Ron Sexsmith for the first time last Thursday evening, what a fantastic performer Ron is. I was blown away with his generous spirit, his gentle words when addressing the crowd and his downright niceness! This man matters and he derserves every good thing coming down the pipe. Man, he was amazing.
