In Dreams : Roy Orbison in Concert Hologram Tour

by LL2012 on 2018-10-15Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Great Show. The Roy Orbison Hologram, looked So Real . I over heard during the concert which most of the majority of the Patrons attending the show were Seniors like myself. 50 years of age or older that some did not know what to expect and know or understand the Technology of a Hologram Figure. I laughed when I heard some think thought The Roy Orbison Hologram was a Real Human look a like Roy Orbison Tribute Show.

    A Bit Eerie But Enjoyable

by Atee on 2018-10-14Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I never had a chance to see Roy Orbison in real life, so the hologram concert was the next best thing. It's somewhat eerie to see the semi-transparent image of Roy Orbison in front of the live orchestra, and his natural stoic(?) persona makes the overall feel of watching the hologram a bit more artificial than if he was a more expressive performer. The upside is you get his real voice and image from a real concert. The downside, is there is no interaction between the actual audience and the artist. Would I prefer seeing a talented impersonator instead? I think I would, but only slightly. Although an impersonator will never be the same as the artist, they often do a great job of portraying their best side, and engage the audience. In the end, I still very much enjoyed the hologram version of Roy Orbison with the talented live orchestra and backup singers.

    Roy Orbison was awesome

by fourds on 2018-10-14Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The Roy Orbison show was just awesome. We really enjoyed it, especially when he came up out of the floor and sang his songs and then poof and he was gone. The orchestra and the singers were super good also.

This exceeded my expectations. The orchestra was fantastic and it was a great way to see a 'Legend' perform. I would highly recommend it.

We were totally amazed by this show. Sentimentally, it was great to hear Roy Orbison almost live. The orchestra was very impressive as well. they really made the holographic Roy seem real. Great show.

    Roy Orbison Hologram tour

by Gurugirl on 2018-10-13Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

We found the the Hologram portion of the production very good, in fact amazing. We were not impressed with how the show was introduced- basically a guy came out and said please welcome Julian Frampton to the stage- that's it, no explanation- no preamble as to what he was doing up there. He sang for approx 30 min and everyone was left wondering why he sang in the first place as we had all come to a Hologram concert, it wasn't like the Hologram was going to get tired during the production and we all wanted to hear the Orbison songs which are many. When Julian left the stage- the lights came on- no one said we are having a break of 20 minutes which is what it was....why have a break- the guy sang for 30 minutes and no one wanted to hear him anyway... again the hologram isn't going to get tired. then the lights went out and out came the orchestra (which was fantastic- no introduction as to who they were and they certainly deserved recognition- then the Hologram performance which was 5 star so my 3 star rating is based on the way the program was handled and the beginning act. In other words, with the large repertoire of music that Roy Orbison had we would have loved to listen to that for two hours. we did not need to listen to some unknown artist taking up time. The way the performance introductions and breaks were handled was very unprofessional from any other performance we have ever been to. I say- increase the time with the Hologram and cut out anything else. give the orchestra some introduction and have someone come out and talk about how they went about doing the Hologram idea etc. that is more interesting to those of us that came for a performance by a dead man whose music we all loved.

Roy Orbison - The Hologram Tour was Excellent!

by Tomato on 2018-10-13Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Great show, very well done, the orchestra and back up singers were amazing, and the hologram so realistic. Felt like Roy was really there. The entire show was so well coordinated, with his singing, the back up singers and orchestra all coming together perfectly. A great night!

by MBfanforever on 2018-10-13Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I really enjoyed how this show was put together! The Hologram was very well done! Very entertaining and vocal tracks were super!! Enjoyed the full orchestra and back up singers and lighting...a very intimate show! All the favourite songs were performed! Would love to see this for other artists too such as Conway Twitty, Elvis, Johnny Cash...so many possibilities!!

    Roy Orbison was cool!

by Anonymous on 2018-10-13Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The holographic representation was impressive and well choreographed into the show. Roy’s movements and acknowledgement to the orchestra and singers was spot on. Seating is important to get the true effect of the holograph.

    Blew Me Away!!!

by Twiggirl on 2018-10-13Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The show was fantastic! Well balanced with the band, the video clips and of course the hologram! It was hard to believe Roy Orbison was not really there.

    Holo Tech!

by Motokos on 2018-10-13Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Hologram tech was amazing! Sound was great. But the concert was only 55 minutes (including 10+ with no hologram). Due to the short length of concert, it was waaayyy overpriced.

    Roy Orbison hologram tour

by Chiy2 on 2018-10-13Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Frampton opener was so loud, I wanted to scream and leave. The uncalled intermission left us mystified and the Roy act seemed to take forever to start. The feature Orbison part was fine even though the hologram Roy was a bit weird. The orchestra was incredibly wonderful!

    Disappointing

by Denbo on 2018-10-13Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Very disappointed for me for what was an expensive show that we had looked forward to so much. Show started at 8pm with a solo act that had no relevance to the evening, and lasted for just over 20 minutes. We then waited for 25 minutes until the orchestra came on and as good as they were, it was not what we had expected. In a show that lasted less than an hour, the actual music was excellent as expected, but the lip syncing lookalike hologram that appeared and then disappeared every 15 minutes was a big let down.

    Neat but boring

by Yycgirl63 on 2018-10-13Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The hologram technology is really neat. But the concert as a whole is boring and not engaging.

    Roy Orbison

by Anonymous on 2018-10-13Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Actually, I thought this concert pretty lame. The opening act used fowl language, but, was fairly entertaining. Then we had 45 minutes of just sitting there, the orchestra was very good but the hologram was disappointing. the Jubilee has amazing sound so the music was very good.

    Interesting, with some buts

by 2centsworth on 2018-10-13Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Roy Orbison Hologram was an interesting creation and a gift to our peers of a "certain age" to enjoy once again the great music of that era. Although the evening was fun, a few nit-picks to share: Opening singer of Julien Frampton was talented but completely the wrong choice for this crowd, and starting with an F word doesn't endear him to this particular audience, very disrespectful and tone-deaf. Speaking of deaf, that's how you feel after the high volume sound of this opening, which is probably the sound man's fault. Wish Julien or somebody else had opened with cover songs from the 1970's, that's why we all were there! And probably didn't need a massive symphony orchestra as live backup, a more select band would have sufficed. The two backup singers were amazing!

    Roy Orbison Hologram tour

by Msme on 2018-10-13Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

What an Amazing Concept. There were three of us in attendance and all loved the new technology. Fantastic selection of songs, terrific orchestra, & enjoyed the film clips in between the songs. Could have done without the opening act, and listened to a few more Roy tunes, but I would definitely recommend this concert, and look forward to more of the same by various entertainers.
