Excellent, good progressive rock, remarkable details
sounded as good or better than they ever have. The quality of sound was brilliant and the drummer was fantastic with an awesome drum solo
I haven't seen Michael Sadler since his return and it was worth the wait. Nothing against the previous lead vocal but Saga isn't Saga without Michael leading the group. He would be the perfect front man for a Queen revival. So glad to hear so much from the first album and the 2 songs from the new album were really good as well. Michael Thorne the new drummer did great as well. Can't wait to see them again.
Watching Saga Fri night at the Sound Academy was fantastic, The sound was crystal clear, and Michael Sadler was in fine form. I saw them first in Kalsruhe Germany in 83' and this brought back many memories. SAGA is a must see. SA could use more seating tho.
I've always loved this band since the 70's. Great full sound. Great bass, great keyboards, great guitar solos, and amazing vocals. And 30+ years later, they still sound just as fresh as they did back then. Very impressive.
It was great to see Saga again, probably since 1980 something at Maple Leaf Gardens would have been the last time. Michael Sadler did a fantastic job fronting the band and his voice is in fine form. They played most of the radio hits and I found myself singing along out loud with a lot of the people there during amost of the songs. Infectious music that I keep humming in my head 3 weeks later. The bass guitar and drum volume was a little too loud I thought, it would muffle out the keyboards and guitar at times. However still a great show to experience overall. Would love to see Saga with Marillion in Germany in November! A really fun evening out but S/A please clean up the glass in your parking lot as I got a flat tire in there!
Saga was great! Sound Academy is a great place to watch a band perform and be able to actually get close enough to watch guitar action in detail. My only complaint was that they played "Wind Him Up" as their second last song and used a not so well known song as their finale. Seemed kind of anti climatic? But a great show overall with their usual professionalism!
Great to see Micheal Sadlers voice back where it should be...With Saga. The band was amazing as usual......Come back soon!
These guys rock..... i know now why the Germans embrace them. The show was loud, songs were great, stage presence ruled. Played a great mix of new and old stuff
Excellent Concert. They did all their hits, plus a few of their favorites. The songs sounded just like they were recorded, only better. Covered all the years from 1977 - 2011. Great to have Michael Sadler back as front man and lead vocalist. (He shouldn't have shaved his head, though). Got a little loud towards the end. Came back for 2-song encore. So glad I went. Would go see Saga, any time any place.
Saga is one of those bands that to appreciate them you have to see them live. Much of the recording process in the late 70's and early 80's was very compressed sounding and Saga's albums were no exception. That being said you'd just crank it up. To see Saga live is a different experience altogether. The energy level these guys put out and the largeness of their sound really comes to life in a concert setting. There is no band tighter on stage than these guys and that is no small feat given the complexity of their playing. As musicians these guys are top notch and Brian Doerner is bad ass on drums. Michael is one of the best front men in the business and the guys are great great musicians. This was an exciting show for long time Saga fans and for some new ones in attendence who have now been won over.
For the LOVE OF GOD ! Please get the boys out to WESTERN CANADA ! WE LOVE SAGA !!!!
These guys are as good as it gets and its "Made in Canada"! The textures and pieces from each instrument are fitted together effortlessly into one big beautifull sound. The new singer was very acceptable. I say it that way because the former had a distinctive sound that the new guy was able to capture. They are all exceptional musicians. Check out their discography, 21 albums and counting!
The fans were rewarded with a high energy show. The musicians seem to get better and better and Rob, the new singer has now become a seasoned member of the band. Hope they play the venue again next year including some new songs (new album to come soon).
I bought my tickets for Saga at The Sound Academy (formerly The Docks) in Toronto, ON, Canada because I was anxious to hear what the new Saga line-up sounded like live in 2009. Having replaced former lead singer Michael Sadler with Toronto raised Rob Moratti in 2008. I was pleasantly surprised by the new Saga. It sounds remarkably fresh and although it will never be the Saga from the early days, it seems like a very positive, vibrant collaboration between Moratti and the remaining members of Saga. Saga opened with part of the instrumental first track of the new album, displaying dazzling guitar and keyboard melodies and some ultrafast simultaneous playing by Crichton and Gilmour. The crowd responded instantly and the party was on, never to stop that evening! The band mixed it up all evening by switching between songs from their new CD, ‘The Human Condition’ and all the older great songs that were instantly recognized by the crowd and brought on outbursts of screams, yells and applause. ‘Wind Him Up’, ‘On The Loose’, ‘Don’t Be Late’, ‘The Flyer’, ‘Scratching The Surface’, and many more songs that the audience sang along with the band.. From the new CD they played ‘The Human Condition’, ‘Hands Of Time’, ‘Avalon’, ‘Crown Of Thorns’, ‘You Look Good To Me’, ‘Now Is Now’, and ‘Step Inside’. At the end of the concert as Saga left the stage after returning for two encores, the band and most of the concert goers were tired out from the party, but have another evening full of great memories of another great concert by another of their hometown bands SAGA.
We got in early to and started the evening off with Throbbin Robins. They are most entertaining band i've seen all summer! Hope to see them again around town. Saga's entrance was explosive! The new frontman can sing no doubt but his stage persona needs a bit of work. He did not seem to fit with the band. We gave him a chance and enjoyed the rest of the evening. Would I see them again? maybe.
If you're a fan of their music, you would enjoy their show. Owned their albums back in the 80's but never seen them live. They're older (like most in attendance) & still put on a superb show. New lead singer did very well. Would recommend to anyone to see them live if you get a chance.
The band is awesome but I wasn't impressed with the lead singer. I left early..oh well I guess you can't go back to Kansas :( The opening act, the Throbbin Hoods, were awesome! A great surprise!
I must admit from the start that I could see these guys put the phone book to music and would like it. The lead vocals (Rob Moratti) were strong and clear, and he seems to be mellowing with the rest of the established band. Since their Mod Club show he is showing a bit more personality. The group concentrated more on their newer material but put in all the old fan favourites, "Wind him Up", "On the Loose", "Don't be Late",etc. For anyone new to the 'SAGA' experience, they probably don't realize their 30+ years of performing and extensive discography, but the excellent, driving, clear, sound in the "Sound Academy" would have blown them away. My first time there and I am quite impressed with the facilities: again the sound system, the ease of getting to and from the venue, parking and the surroundings are great. If you pre-buy tickets for this place, take the VIP parking, it saves $5, almost enough for your first drink. As with most club type facilities though, the drinks are overpriced
