Saskatchewan Roughriders History

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are a professional team in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and one of the oldest professional North American sports franchises. Originally competing as the Regina Rugby Club in 1910, the team name settled permanently on the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1946 before joining the nascent CFL in 1958. The Roughriders made the playoffs every year from 1962 to 1976, winning their first Grey Cup in 1966. Overall, the team has made 19 Grey Cup appearances, with four wins including 1989, 2007 and 2013. Across their history, the Saskatchewan Roughriders roster has consisted of 20 Canadian Football Hall of Famers, seven Annis Stukus Trophy winners for the CFL’s top head coach and and four Most Outstanding Players, as well as four recipients of the Most Outstanding Canadian Award, six Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Awards, three John Agro Special Teams Awards and two Most Outstanding Defensive Player Awards. The Roughriders’ rivalry with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers has led to two annual matchups between the traditional Labour Day Weekend game and the now-dubbed Banjo Bowl the following weekend.

Saskatchewan Roughriders at Mosaic Stadium

Rider Nation have been gathering for Saskatchewan Roughriders home games at Mosaic Mosaic Stadium since its opening in 2017. The 33,500-seat venue replaced the Roughriders’ long-standing home at the historic Taylor Field after eight decades. The spectator-friendly setting is complete with sunken-bowl seating and tiled panels that partially cover three sides of the field to protect from the Prairie weather. Fans set a capacity record at 33,506 during a 2019 Saskatchewan Roughriders matchup against rivals the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 2022, Mosaic Stadium hosted the Grey Cup for the first time, marking the fourth time the championship game was held in the city of Regina.

    Handbags

    by Speed1970 on 2021-10-12Mosaic Stadium - Regina

Before checking for vaccinations(QR App), if a fan has a handbag/purse/backpack, inform them they have to either purchase clear bag or go to Brandt Admin Centre before they go through vaccine check not after. This results in lining up again to proceed through vaccine check. Another solution s/b a bold sign specifying new rule- NO HANDBAGS. Thank-you

    September 17th

by Debster on 2021-09-22Mosaic Stadium - Regina

ohh my goodness. I was flying from BC and decided to check out the game. I go to all the CFL games in Vancouver, and said, hey, lets check them out!! What a blast, starting from the front entrance where the volunteers were so helpful and a delight to deal with. Then finding my seats which were amazing to watching the game. The fans were so amazing and totally engaged and the energy was outstanding!! I would recommend checking this crazy Rider event out for sure. The food was everywhere and the lines went fast, and the beer sales people were all having a blast. Keep up the great work with these events. It really shows off Saskatchewan and what they trulely have to offer. WE ARE ALL WINNERS WITH THIS AMAZING TEAMWORK!

by Brittany on 2021-09-21Mosaic Stadium - Regina

The experience was fantastic, however it was a shame when my son caught a practise ball he wasn't able to keep it as a souvenir or receive something in lieu of the practise ball.

    A winning performance

by Matt on 2021-09-20Mosaic Stadium - Regina

From entering the gates to leaving at the end of a fun filled evening of sports, the whole experience was quick, easy and smooth. This was also the first time we had to show proof of getting vaxxed to get in and the process was pretty simple, show your vax card and photo ID, get in the game. Huge shoutout to all the staff behind the scenes and a bigger shoutout to the Riders for putting on a winning performance!

    Covid precautions failure

by BigRob on 2021-09-08Mosaic Stadium - Regina

Sadly, mandatory vaccination provisions were not enacted for this game, putting the health of all patrons at risk. I wore my mask throughout the whole game because I could not be sure others around me were not infected. About half of people did have masks however almost all removed them while in the seating area during the game where the spread of Covid was most likely with people cheering and shouting.

    Great game, horrible acoustics

    by Mrs.C on 2021-09-08Mosaic Stadium - Regina

The game and seats were great. The acoustics of mosaic stadium, however, were absolutely horrible. Everything echoed, couldn’t understand a single word anyone said, not even the refs.

    Fun but could be better

by MrBubbles on 2021-08-24Mosaic Stadium - Regina

This was our son’s first Rider game. A fun experience that I hope he remembers for a long time. Aside from the price, which I think is a little expensive (but that is the price of these things, so I shan’t complain about that), is the few fans in the section that thought that the F-word was appropriate to use around all the families with kids in the area. As the booze was consumed the language and actions of a few were taking over the fun experience. We were not in the Pil-zone, nor anywhere close (actually at the opposite side) where the box office said was a great family environment. There are sections where that kind of behaviour is more acceptable (but this was not one of them). Shame on the “fans” that do that and ruin the experience of those around them. Kudos to the gentleman who finally stood up and told them to stop swearing around all the kids…a true fan. The Riders should be more cognizant of this kind of behaviour and have more security wandering around looking for it instead of just loitering around watching the game. Don’t wait for people to report it on their mobile devices. Be proactive rather than reactive - especially for the price.

    Fun time

by Jeff on 2021-08-24Mosaic Stadium - Regina

Ticketing experience was great. Be aware that the stadium has restrictions on what you can take in: no purse or backpack. Take Rider Transport and leave your car. The game was a lot of fun.

    Great game, horrible sound

by Rick on 2021-08-17Mosaic Stadium - Regina

Using the digital tickets worked fine. However, the sound quality was awful. Couldn't here the referee, the announcer, or the half time entertainment. Pretty dismal for a new stadium

    Great stadium, good visuals

by Roxane on 2021-08-17Mosaic Stadium - Regina

The tickets for each person must be issued to them well before the event so that everyone can set up an account and open the tickets. Nothing bigger than your hand comes in unless it’s in a clear bag. So many ladies tried to bring in their purse and were sent back to their cars. Lots of food options but some can be a walk depending on your seat. Bathrooms are plentiful and well dispersed. Both stairs and elevators for the upper levels. They have water filling stations but they are not marked so can be easily missed.
